Why do we humans think animals have no rights

I have just seen the most disgusting thing on TV..The way cattle people or farmers or what ever we call them treat animals, firstly they herd them in bif pens then trap their body betewwn two metal type restraints then just throw it to the ground then they burn or what they call brand then take a knife and cut bits off, how can these so called people do this when they see the pain and hear the squeeling and look at the fright in their eyes...I think the whole thing is absolutely disgusting, I think I would like to turn the tables on these people and see if they too feel the pain and see how it hurts..my heart bleeds for any animald that has to go through this, they have feelings, and have a right to be treated with respect... And before all you meat eaters go crazy at me...no I don't eat meat...I am so shocked at what I have just seen shame shame shame.....

I have to admit I'm a meat eater, but have lessened my consumption of it and when I do get meat I go out of my way to get "organic". To be honest I didn't know they still made a habit of branding cattle..isn't that kind of unnecessary and a rather outdated thing to do? The reason I get organic beef, even though it's more expensive is that at least I know the cattle are raised "free-roaming"--like the image most people think of as far as cows being raised. However, sadly here in my country we have those farm "factories" in which there's no respect for the animals raised for food and are treated horribly...most of the meat raised in farm factories, wind up being the meat (hamburgers) for the fast food chains like Burger King and McDonald's--and thankfully I have absolutely NO interest in eating food from such places.

Well I am not a religious person and I feel the quotes from books that no one really knows who wrote, all we do know it was obviously written by a man, as all books from all religions are so against women, so I say the books mean nothing and the world today would be better off in all ways without them all........

Don't you think that's the whole crux of the matter? For instance in the bible it says that "man" has dominion over all living things...but unfortunately I think for the most part humankind has misinterpreted the meaning...I don't think it meant "dominion" as far as doing whatever one wants to do with animals...especially causing horrific pain and torture, but more in the lines of being caregivers to animals and to treat them with respect..this may be the real meaning behind "dominion"--to be caregivers

I am a vegan, so I know how you feel. I don't understand how some people can do what they do to an animal and not feel or see their pain. You don't have to have a high IQ to see that animals feel. Most humans think that animals are unfeeling things that can be treated anyway they feel. I am not sure where the superior complex comes from. I am a very sensitive person and sometimes I think it would be better to not be, but at the same time I can't imagine not feeling the pain of other living things. I wouldn't want to be that way. Here in the U.S. they showed horrible conditions of a slaughterhouse company, last year. It was on the news over and over. I couldn't even watch the short clips they showed, it was sad. The cows were being kicked, stunned and pushed around with a bulldozer. If you haven't seen 'Meet you Meat' I highly advise you to Not watch it. I tried to watch it years ago and it was the saddest and worse thing I have ever seen. I couldn't make it through the whole thing. I had a friend who said she watched it and acted like it was no big deal. It actually changed the way I looked at her. What kind of person can watch that and not be affect by it?

Oh, God. Yes, I had ever seen such violation to animals like you talk... It's really embarrassing me as human and I feel so scare when they're hurt. I hope that no more animal harshness in this world, especially do it for money.

Hi lila! I do have to agree with you that the branding of animals is definitely torture to say the least! And I hate to admit it, but I am a meat eater who is very ashamed because I am also an animal fanatic who hates to see animals in pain. So I know this is a hypocritical statement. I don't want to see animals tortured for no reason as in branding, but I do also know that in order for them to provide food that they are tortured. I struggle with myself because of this mixed emotion that I have about the fact that I do eat meat. I hate myself when I see these things and think about what these poor animals go through. I wish I had never tasted meat so that I would not have to feel like a hypocrit. But, I still don't want animals to be hurt and I'm sorry that I am weak.

and fair enough but no living creature should be tortured through it life after all it is going to end up being slaughtered why not let them have a nice life...how many men would like to have their bits chopped off with no pain relief...anumals have feelings, they feel pain and they have a will to live, no living creature should be put through torture....Humans are disgusting

Today there are a lot of investigations that are concluding about some of the animal behavior, and some species even show emotive intelligence, use of reason and very good memory. Maybe theyre more Human than the human itself, by the good term of the word in denominating human something thats benefical, that thinks a lot in the others.

I am a deep thinker and maybe a little too sensitive for my own good but I often wonder with the search for other beings on other planets, what things are the deciding factors to make a creature another being or an animal for human consumption, is it because they walk on four legs or interlect, why is that when humans enter the domain of other animals such as sharks or crocodiles and they are killed by these animals, why is it that have to be hunted down, man has a very greedy attitude to thia world, they want it all, so much sio they have all but destroyed it...so maybe our we have out smarted ourselves with our so called superior interlect.....sorry but i am still so angry at what I saw on that show and I feel i have no way of stopping it.....

yes I do agree branding is gruesome and it hurts me just to think of it as well. It is so cruel you think they would find other ways to identify their cattle.

Hello lilaclady. It is really so bad of the way the cattle people treat the animals. I quite agree with you that animals have also their feelings. If we humans can take care of them and think of their feelings, they would love their life much better. Take care, friend.

Well not all human think animals had no rights, only the cruel type believed so. Animals did feel pain while getting slaughtered and shot at while being hunted. It is disgusting to see animals gotten killed by hunters all years round in the wilderness minding their own business, most of them were killed for the sole reason that hunters want to showcase their marksmanship to the world, so they used animals as their practicing targets not that they are too poor to pay for meat.

I am a meat eater, but I am not going to go crazy at you. While I do believe that animals were put on this earth to serve mankind I do not believe they should be tortured. There are humane and painless ways to do everything that we need to do to animals from marking ownership and tracking to butchering for food. It is a foolish and heartless person who inflicts pain on any living thing.

As I sit here, eating my delicious veggie- burger...I must say, I agree. How about the chickens they raise without beaks or feathers? There is one simple answer as to why we wipe out entire species without a care. Because God told Abe that he made us in his own image. This gives humans the God given right to destroy and dominate every other living thing. It is absurd, but, these are the beliefs that have shaped our society.

If human fails to think so, he definitely fails to live.Human's power will last in earth as long as he control other beings. If the power loses, or thinks the way you told, then he is soon going to be extinct like other species.

I have no problem with eating meat, but I don't like how they treat the animals in farms and such places. I mean, if we are going to eat them, at least hunt them so that they have a chance to run and get away.

we are made with our different rights as well... means animals have their rights too... but its already a cycle of life... we kill them to eat them... to let us stay alive... thats just how life goes...
21 Feb 09
Hi lilaclady, I agree with you, they should have more respect for these animals, why can't they paint on them instead of branding them? I cannot understand it, glad I never saw it as I would have felt sick, I think all animals have thre rights more then humans. Tamara

Even I am not a meat eater and I don't like these animals to be killed but don't you think that here people are killing each other even if there is a human right council is there. Now, if we people can't see each other living, how can we expecet that they will show mercy on the animals. Most of the time they do feed these animals so that they can get more flesh to be sold. The only way to stop these killing is to avoid meat from now on!

Hello my friend lilaclady Ji, So nice of you to start discussions on this topic. We too are pure Vegetarians. But for that matter, all vegetables too have life. Any way, it is really a cruelty by all those who do all this. I have some quotations from following site, and you may do lot with help of that site. http://www.animalsrighttolifewebsite.com/ " (1) George Bernard Shaw When we ourselves are the living graves of murdered beasts, how can we expect any ideal conditions on this earth? (2) J. B. Suconik If a great change is to override human tyranny of animals, a great collection of human minds will by word and deed authorize such change. And the inevitable opposition will appear to be opposed to the decrees of Justice itself, rather than the fervent desires of a compassionate multitude. Factual cause, however shocking, can incite 'desires' for a legal and moral change of the moral status of animals broadly defined." This site is a huge amalgam of 'factual cause' not publicized by your newspaper. " May god bless you and have a great time.
