Has LIFE been kind to you ?

Life is a store house of surprises. At what moment you get a turning point and all your cherished dreams are fulfilled and you are the complete self to your contentment. Perhaps we all consciously or unconsciously wait for a particular moment in life when it is in the making and you need something to give it a desired shape. For many, such moments do arrive and there are still some who are forced to wait like Vladimir and Estragon in the play "waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett. Many are there who can not accept the usual course of life and fall flat on it and feel it a burden all through their life. May be life has not been kind to all on equal term. Probably in the form of an allegory it demands something concrete that you make yourself with your wit and wisdom that you have been bestowed with. Has something of this sort has happened to you or you are still in the wait? Or how do you interpret the lesson of life that you have got in one form or the other?

Up until 1/28, my life was somewhat of a dream. DH and I lived in a nice house in a nice neighborhood. We were fortunate enough to be able to retire early and were fortunate enough financially to travel when we wanted to. On 1/28, DH suffered a stroke and a brain injury that will require him to re-learn how to speak, eat and walk. He will be hospitalized from 6-12 months and his prognosis is unknown. I spent some time feeling that life had dealt us a huge blow. Then I sat down and thought about all of the things that I have to be grateful for. I still have my husband. I still have hope for recovery. Just those few things are so much more than so many people have. When I think of just the basic essentials that I take for granted that so many other people on this planet do not have I realize how truly blessed I am. Through this difficult time, I realized how little things mean and how much people do mean. Thanks for the post. Best of luck to you.

This is a hard reality one or another passes through and fortunately or unfortunately you had this. Never had thought of this catastrophe that would befall you and lo! things are differently designed and now you are on the realization and contented that at least you are with your husband. But how many of you are there to accept the blow of life so friendly? Many give up, many would give in and many would collapse. Hope you will have your good time back and my good wishes that he would be normal again. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Krajibg...My life has certainly been a roller coaster to say the least. Full of ups and downs, joy, pain, sadness, sorrow and happiness. I think this is the way it was meant to be. At times I feel as though life has dealt me a bad hand but then I stop myself and think. If I am able to think that and complain, then I must still be here on earth and for that I am truely thankful

Well, life never seems so kind-you look around you and the world looks as though there is a natural selection that keeps counting you out-I feel am doing the waiting for far too long and am afraid, time is no longer on myside-that makes me occasionally feel I have lived in vain-and that feeling is not the best feeling krajibg

Hi! Why do you let that feeling come and hit your mind? undoubtedly life is not kind enough on all but this should not mean as I feel it depends on how you look into it. Hope things would get better for you. Thanks a lot for responding.

Life has been kind to me so far. There have been ups and downs but both have taught me many things. I am luckier than many because I have good health. Some of the bumps I have had have been of my own choice. Life might have been smoother if I had not made some decisions but I certinly do not look back on them I am very happy for what I have, happy that those around me are fit and well and that we all have food to eat. It could have been a heck of a lot worse!

There is a saying in our language "luckiest the one who is an owner of good health". I feel that is correct to the core. You need no money, no wealth but need a good health and that makes one happy. Thanks for sharing

Hello friend. Life has not been kind to me but it has been kinder to me than some. I would have to say my life has been full of lessons but I think these hardships strenghen our character and help us to become wiser to the world. If we are not exposed how are we to understand the things that are truely important. Until we have lost everything..how do we truely appreciate what we have. Until we know what it's like to be sad..how can we be truely happy. It's ok to fall flat as long as you get back up. My grandfather once described life as swimming in an ocean full of waves. He said to swim til you can't then float til you can swim again.

You are right JenIn. We appreciate the sun shine only because there is the night. similarly life is beautiful for we have had bad days before. Or else it would be the paradise where no human being would be happy or a long time. Every second we are changing and you can not stop this cyclic phenomenon. Your father rightly got the simile. thanks a lot.

Hello my friend krajibg Ji, I believe in Karma , " WORK IS WORSHIP". People expect too much after they do litlle or Nil. Life is full of 'Give and take'. No body wants to face hurdles. Everybody wants to be born with silver spoon in one's mouth. We all should understand, having born was never in our hands or choice. We start comparing everyting, who are above us. Why do'nt we look down. If one looks down, one will not get hurt. So let's live, as HE wants. Also let's perform our duty well. Remember one thing, "WHATEVER IS OURS, NO BODY CAN TAKE, AND WHATEVER IS NOT MINE, ALL TRIALS WOULD BE IN VAIN". So let's be happy. may god bless you and have great time.

Well said. This Indian philosophy really holds water. One's destiny is linked with one's KARMA ( Work )Whatsoever is meant for you do it being committed to it and you will get the result as you do it. Mere fretting wouldn't make happy for the tool of happiness is largely in your hand. Thanks for sharing.

I have never known hunger. I have a happy marriage and a beautiful daughter. I have food in my stomach and can afford to buy more. I am well (and expensively) educated. I own the roof over my head and I am warm in winter. My family have lived long and prosperous lives and love me. I have many friends around the world that love me too. I get enormous satisfaction from the volunteering work that I do. I had a good and successful career in which I became the Head of my Profession. I have had a few disasters of course, but on balance, nothing compared to many others in the World. I am a fortunate man and have no complaints. On the odd occasion when I feel down I just remind myself about all that is good in my life and I am instantly lifted. But it's remembering to have those thoughts that is sometimes the problem!

Ah yes, I did feel that way for about two years. Life had put upon me a horrible weight. I went into a deep and dark depression. My lesson in life is that you learn as you go. Early on you feel put upon by lifes ups and downs but by my age you take your licks and show them like a badge of honor. You only travel through once and whatever happens I feel is for a reason and merely my fate.

Life is a mix of good and bad times.we are now in a hard time that has the whole world on its ear.we must work our way out of this, Just like we have before.I my self have taken a job that i would have turn down a few months ago.we must all do our best until the hard times are over.i tell my grand kids this is the reason that, they need the best education they can get. even if we can not re-enter school we can always make our self better at what we do.we will all have to bear with this. My best wishes to you and yours

quite good though everyone may experience bad luck or unhappiness for a while. but that's life, the mixture of positive and negative. my most precious that life has offered me is my dear great parents. without them, i am nothing. so, in general, i am contented with my life.

In more ways than one, yes I think life has been kind to me. Compared to what the rest of the world has experienced. although at times I have felt that the world has shun on me but every single time I get this reality check that my problems are so petty compared to what other people are going through. and as I think more about it, I realized that yeah overall despite the heartbreaks and the losses I have experienced, life has been fairly kind to me. I have been blessed with a great family and a great of set friends who always are ready to accept me for me and would always be ready to give a hug or an ear for support. so yes, life has definitely been kind.

There is a tone of contentment here. Yes, life is not always so harsh and many people spoil the broil themselves. There are lots of misinterpretation which leads to unhappiness and hardship. Many times Life does not talk in the straight language but you will have to make out what it mean. If you could arrive at the right conjecture you are a gainer. Thanks for the response.

has life been good? thats the question posed to me at the moment. I am only 17 years of age, When i was five i began kindergarden and began raising myself. My mom was a full time working mom as well as my dad worked full time as well. I was frequently left at school and at a young age began rasing myself. Both my parents are junkies and my father has been very abusive over the past 10 years. Three years ago my brother passed away and then my "hanai" sister was raped my five of my best friends in a parking lot. At that point i was arrested for assult in the first, for beating up my friend that raped my sister. i did my time, 3 months, and now im working to graduate this year, and trying to start a new life as far away from my family as i can. Now you tell me has life been good to me? i dont think so... But i woulodnt change any of my past,,,,,, any of my choices... I love being the man i am today.

No, this is too much for one to sustain. Life is not expected to be so but ironically sometime it is so and we have to battle against the tide. I really feel sorry about you and whatsoever befell you but hope , things would be aright as you grow up. My dear you are just 17 and the whole lot of fife is there infront of you. My best wishes with you.

Life...sometimes when i want to think something different its the course of life which i mostly think about.I am saying it "different" because now a days everyone is so indulged in hustle and bustle of daily activities that no one tends to think about it.In my life, though not too long so i don't have enough experience, yet i have faced many situations when i got which i didn't deserve but still there were moments that i lost things that i thought were made for me. I experienced times where while spending a few bucks i had to think quite a many times however there also came a time that while spending a lot i didn't think even for a second. Life is a beautiful picture having glowing and eyecatching colours of happiness, wins, smiles, friends, parents, siblings, positions and a lot more. But there are also a few places in this picture where all the colours fade, these refer to moments of saddness, defeats, tears, missing someone and loss of someone close to the heart.

Lately? Yes. When I was very young? Yes. Between those points...no. In fact, the stuff inbetween almost makes the good seem inpurportionate. But I'm not waiting for things to change. Things are ALWAYS changing...i wouldn't know what to do with myself if things stopped changing constantly or became perfect and wonderful for the rest of my life. Life's been...crazy, to me. And that's fine. I have no real complaints...I'm happy with where I'm at now, and I trust that at some point I'll be happy again.

Even if you are not happy you have to make compromise with life to get the best out of its chest. I really admire your stance and I guess this is the way to be happy, just go with the wind and stop if you wish... thanks a lot for sharing.

I've had a wonderful life. It's been very full of happiness, sadness, joy, pain, love and resentment. I've experienced abject poverty and hunger and also comfort and luxury. I've been loved, rejected, used and well-served, I've been alone and had friends. Just about anything you can think of, I've experienced it as well as its opposite. God has been good to me--He hasn't given me everything I wanted so there's still something to strive for. He's given me good health so that I'm able to enjoy my life. There will always be something to pursue, some goal to achieve and that makes life worthwhile. I'm a very wealthy woman because while I don't have much money I have dear friends, children and family that I love and money can never buy those treasures! So no, I've never reached a point where all my dreams came true and I feel blessed that they didn't because there will always be something to reach up for.

How many of us are there with so many varieties of experiences. Its wonderful to know how a person can still thank life that it has been kind to her for there are still some things to achieve. so well said and the final realization is that striving for this or that should never end or else life would fade out and no charm would be left. Great.

Compared to many certainly life has been kind to me. Am I completely satisfied? Not yet, although I don't believe that we can ever be fully satisfied with our lot. It is human nature to achieve and to strive for more and, unless we have learned our past lessons, never be at peace. I feel thankful for the good things I have today, my healthy child being the most precious gift of all On the other hand I wish I had been more fortunate in love and if it is true that we choose our parents, I wish I had selected differently.

You said it rightly. Many people are not happy for they long for more than enough as they forget that life is best lived if you had the contentment. And those who do not learn from their past are the fretting lots. Thanks Paula.

Well dear life has been full of surprises for me too.The least thought things become reality and that surprise and shock you the most because you are never prepared for such happenings. Life has taught me many things. Some of these are: Never expect anything from anyone. Give your 100% to a relationship to make it successful. Always welcome positive criticism with open arms. Life has proved like a roller coaster to me and ups and downs in my life has made me more stronger and determined. Now i am more strong, powerful, independent and clear headed woman.

Hello friend, now I can see that none is the Nature's dear and Nature has been equal to one and all in one form or another. I agree to your point not to expect anything from any one. This particular mentality would keep one always his/her self for as there is no expectation there is no grumbling either. And accepting positive criticism is a tough job I feel. Yours have been a rather didactic nature Life ever turned on you. Thank you very much for sharing.
