I want to do all that I can to conserve water, and would like any advice you can give. First I would like to get a rain water barrel. I have found them for around $115, and want to know if I can get them cheaper. (this is a little too expensive for me Second, I would like to get new shower heads, and found a few, but I would like to know which you suggest, and how much I should pay. http://www.cleanairgardening.com/1-5gpm-efficient-showerhead.html (would this be sufficient?) Any other advice would be well appreciated!

i don't know anything abt rain barrels, but I would think you could use just about any type of container for that. But as far as shower heads - if you aren't really picky - for about $8 at walmart they sell these shower heads like they use on Navy ships. They are extremely water efficient and put out a nice strong stream of water. We bought one for our bathroom and just from installing that a 15 minute hot shower lasts 45 minutes. We tested it one day just to see lol

Wow! Do you know how many gallons/min your new shower head uses? Normal shower heads use 2.5 gal/min, I would like to find one that uses 1.5gal/min (a huge difference)

I am not 100% sure, but I think it usues 1.33 gallons. They are by the shower heads in walmart - if not you can ask - i know it is on the packaging.

Thanks, I will go to Wal-Mart because that sounds cheaper than what I have found online!

Are you going to use the rain water to drink? If not any type of container will work as long as it doesn't rust or leach chemicals into your water. We can buy burn barrels here. You just need to paint inside these barrels with rust preventive paint. Do you have city water and does it corrode your faucets? If so you need a more expensive one. If not you can go cheap. All these things should be coming down in costs. Another thing you can do is put all outside water on a timer, they are not expensive. Good for you

Thank you! Yes we get City water, and it is Horrible! I have changed shower heads twice due to the bad water. I did some extra research and found that you need cutters for the rain to flow out of into the barrel, we dont have cutters, so I would have to install those first before I got any good use from the barrel. Thank you for your advice!
