Jade Goody

I'm sure most people in the UK must be aware of the terrible news about Jade Goody. Such a young woman with two small children and only weeks to live. I would be interested in other peoples opinions on how she and her agent are handling the media attention at the moment. Is it right that we are basically watching her last days on TV? Do you think that she is doing the right thing? I was never a huge fan myself but this has really touched me. Your opinions would be appreciated.

I've never had a high opinion of Jade Goody and the fact that she now has terminal cancer hasn't changed that. Of course it's very sad that a young woman with two small children is dying, but unfortunately these situations happen all the time and it doesn't make the national news. Personally I think the media coverage of it all is ridiculous and in extremely bad taste but it's what she wants. It's her choice and I'm not surprised by it. She's never shown much common sense or dignity in the past, there's no reason to think she will start doing so now. I don't think she's doing the right thing. I think there are many things that are far more important than being on TV or in the papers. I would have thought that spending time with the children she won't see growing up would take priority in her life right now (yes, I've heard about how she's doing it to make enough money to ensure her children are looked after when she's gone, but the truth is she already had made a lot of money anyway). I wonder what it will be like for her children if they look back at all the press and TV coverage when they're older. I wonder how they will view the way their mother spent her last weeks of life. But to be fair, if all this media coverage raises women's awareness of cervical cancer and the importance of regular tests, then at least some good will come out of it all, even if that wasn't her motivation for doing it.
