Suggestions For Bad Tooth Pain?!

I'm having extremely awful shooting pains in one of my teeth. It's to the point now where it's just a constant throbbing like pain, with an occasional shooting pain. I don't like taking medications, so if anyone knows any home remedies, please let me know some. I've tried the saltwater, and I'm not sure what exactly that's supposed to do, but it has just intensified it. I've also tried vanilla, and it helped for like a split second! It's really sensitive to touch, air, and cold or hot fluids. Any suggestions will greatly greatly be appreciated!

well, i used to experience bad tooth ache in the past as well... and what i did was to just bear with it and gargle salt water... but that is a big mistake... i should have gone to the dentist straight away when i feel the pain before it becomes worst which i didn't... i regret it as it is a wrong thing to do... the toothache becomes worst and i have to spend more money to fix it as the hole has become so big and the dentist has to do root canal treatment on it... so my suggestion to you is to go to the dentist straight away before it becomes worst... hope you will feel better soon... take care and have a nice day...

I seriously hope that my tooth isn't bad enough to need a root canal. I've never had one done, but I've heard that they are extremely painful. I called this morning, and the soonest I can see a dentist is in two months. I made the appointment a week ago, but called some other dentists this morning to see if they had anything sooner and no one did.

I am having tooth ache also today, one of my friends' suggested to take a lukewarm water with salt and gurgled, it somehow eased and relieved the pain. I don't want to take medications anymore because of its implication to our over-all health so I just resort to home and natural remedies. Lukewarm water with salt is very effective, well in your part maybe the pain intensified because the water is not lukewarm, try it again with a lukewarm water because it is very effective in my part.

My tooth is sensitive to everything right now. Whether it is hot, cold, or just warm, it is almost unbearable pain. I'm getting on antibiotics today, so hopefully that will clear the infection and give me some relief. I can't get in with a dentist for two months!

toothache is one of the worst pains going except i suppose against childbirth .. but im a man so for me toothache wins :) anyway .. oil of cloves will numb the area for a while .. use a cotton bud to put it directly on the gum .. also when you rinse with salt water the water must be warm .. cold or hot will kill you .. other than that go see a dentist and keep rinsing with warm salt water

Sounds like a bad tooth that needs to be addressed by a dentist not a home remedy. For comfort- you can try a warm pack applied to the area of the face where the pain is the greatest and you can use a tothpaste for senstive teeth- but you need to see a dentist for a permanent solution. Know that the pain can come and go and you may be fine one day but the next it can be worse than anything you've expereinced so far. Not to mention the infection processes that a bad tooth can cause for the entire body. I always tell folks you wouldn't ignore a broken bone- why would you ignore a broken tooth (or hurt tooth). As a nurse I also tell patients do you know the closet organ to an infected tooth- your brain, infections spread and quickly. Follow up with a dentist and you will feel better in the long wrong. [Note- this is not medical advice- just a few pointers for feeling better and taking care of yourself]. Good Luck to you!

I have an appointment with a dentist, but I still have to wait for two months. I made the appointment a week ago, and have been dealing with the pain since. I tried to tell them that the tooth was extremely sensitive and that I'm pretty sure that the tooth is infected. Two months was as good as he could do. I called my doctor this morning, and he called in a prescription for antibiotics to try and get the infection cleared up. Unfortunately there's not many dentists to choose from in my area, and this dentist was the soonest I could get an appointment with. Hopefully the antibiotics will help the pain until I get to see the dentist.

I had a similar problem a fortnight back and like you, I do not like taking those pain killers either, as they are only temporary solutions. I would suggest you to brush twice daily and then massage your gums with your fingers for about thirty seconds. You will never have any tooth problems in the future. For the present situation, I recommend you wash your mouth with those anti bacterial solutions, because they work really fast. All your tooth pain will be gone after a couple of times you do that. I use Senquel-F here. Don't know if its availabe in your country or not but take any solution with Fluoride content in it. It would work equally well. Thanks and wishing you a happy recovery

I'm assuming that there is an infection, but I always use anti bacterial mouthwash after I brush my teeth. Thanks for responding.

doesn't sound like its going away anytime soon, get it yanked or if your able to afford the rediculus prices of dentists you should go. i live in florida and the cost of a cleaning goes from 150.00 on the east coast to 50.00 on the west coast for the same exact thing. ive lived on both so why the big buck upgrade they have dentists schools that will do it for nothing while teaching the new doc's . now thats a pretty good deal if your near one.consider getting it there maybe an hour away compared to home town and paying big bucks, clove oil works in a pinch, but will numb your tongue for awhile.

Take it from someone who knows... the only cure is going to see the dentist! The longer you leave it the worse it will get. I ended up with an infection and a very large abcess! When the pain gets to a certain point nothing you take will touch it! I found that out the hard way!

Hello Amber. I am sorry for your situation about the bad tooth pain,. I don't have such an experience. Just a few days ago, one of my office colleagues was having a bad tooth pain and he went to the dentist for some medication. Now he is fine because he had his bad tooth pulled out. I wish you to be free of tooth pain soon. Good luck to you, friend.

Since you are pretty sure it is an infection, no home cure will deal with it for very long. Antibiotics, you just have to bite the bullet and go to the dentist. The discomfort from that will be momentary compared to what you are going through. Like you I don't like medication, but sometimes it is the best answer.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the only cure is a dentist. If money is an issue see if you can go to the health department or a dental college. You can get rid of the pain with meds but home remedies are not going to solve your problem. Clove oil is supposed to take the pain but it's only temporary. Get to the dentist before it gets worse if it isn't already.

i can understand how the tooth pains are, you have already tried the salt water goggle but you need to do it more than once a day and also daily for about a few days but then too if you can you can try out the clove oil orelse keep the clove itself near your tooth and this also reduces a little pain. if all the remedies dont work you can better go to a dentist so that he can diagonise whats the problem is and help you out. good luck hope your pain comes down as fast as possible. but i would like to suggest you it is better to go to dentist as the toothache causes due to tooth decay and it may surely need treatment in order to cure it properly and not to get pain again if you dont do so you will get the pain again and again and it may effect you more, so be carefull.

Hi Amber. I would suggest clove oil. Nothing is going to make it stop permanately though. Your going to have to go to the dentist. You can also take a BC powder and pour directly on the sore tooth and it will help. Be careful with that clove oil. It's strong stuff.

Well you can use clove oil as it is very good for toothache.Otherwise you can use aspirin tablet .Just put the table on the tooth which is aching,it will automatically dissolve and gives you relief from toothache.

It probably wont get much better until you go to a dentist! I dont like dentists and I have put up with toothaches until I just cant take it anymore! It is such a huge relief when the dentists takes care of it for me! If you have pain it is usually because of an infected or decaying tooth! Nothing can remedy that except a dentist visit!

My husband also mentioned that you might want to see if there are any dental schools in your area which are less expensive than most all dental offices.

From the way you were describing the pain, it looks like you have a bad cavity in one of your teeth, I'm afraid there is no remedy other than seeing a dentist to locate the problem tooth and fix it if possible, anything else you try may only temporarily relieve the pain, I hope you feel better soon. Koalatbs' husband :)

I don't know of any home remedies besides just going to the dentist and hoping they can locate the source of the pain. I've never heard of vanilla easing tooth pain and saltwater is supposed to ease throat pain. Good luck with this and I hope it goes away soon.

O toothache! How do you manage without seeing a dentist?. I can't think that. If you want a permanent cure, you must consult a doctor. Yar how you tolerate it. I can't believe. For natural cure, you try this; dip little cotton in clove oil and keep it on the teeth where you pain or keep a clove seed between the upper teeth and lower teeth(on pain area) biting on it for some time. You will surely get relief. But for permanent cure see the doctor.

Trust me, it hasn't been easy dealing with the pain! IBuprofen is the strongest pain reliever I will take. I don't like the groggy feeling of real pain killers. I'd rather be irritable all day with a bad tooth, than feel like I'm drunk! I do have an appointment with a dentist (but I have to wait two months), and my regular doctor wrote a prescription for antibiotics. Hopefully I can get some relief with them. Thank you for responding!
