Do you find some kind of relief after eating ice cream?

I've seen a lot of films that shows women eating ice cream when they are heart broken. Are there any basis to that or it's purely psychological?

i dont think that by eating anything we cant just calm down either from sadness or any other feeling, if it was the case we all would have used that kind of techniques. but may be just to remove some frustration people might be using this kind of ways, it is good if it helps but i dont think so. each person have their own ways to get rid of their feelings.

Haha, There is no relief per say...but it is not psychological either. It is not something that we have been told is good to do by the media and culture, we just like food, especially sweets, and ice cream is so good. Sometimes it's chocolate, or peanut butter, while some women crave salty indulgences like chips and pizza. We stop caring about our weight and go for what we want when things go sour. It's a terrible coping mechanism but definitely delicious! Men have their own bad coping mechanisms; a woman's is usually food because that is what we are constantly trying to avoid even though we want it. Take note shopping sprees are also taken right after bad things happen as well.

that is right we all like to take good food and when we get something which we like when we sad, yes it would surely bring some liking in us and a calmness. it is also right that we would forget and dont care about our weight and take all things that is human nature and cant deny it.

I love ice cream very much.Actually i learned from a news paper that if you got angry with some one, then you cant control you, at that time you have to choose the thing which you love most .Like if you like chocolate then you can have a chocolate. Thus you anger will be reduce. When i hared this, always i tried to follow this. When i got angry, i search a ice cream shop to have a ice cream.

It's not just for women, my ex husband ate a whole gallon of ice cream once when he was depressed. I guess it's the whole "comfort" thing, to be honest. Me, I don't eat ice creame so I can't really be helpful but I love to eat just out of boredom. *Pleiades

I don't know any psychological basis for that cause im not a psychologist. I'm a biochemist so I'll answer it in a biochemist view. Most of the sweet foods contains serotonin which is the cause of a happy feeling in us, so if ice creams contains serotonin then it will really give you a relief when your heart is down.

I think It can really help you be It physical or psychological. I think that It just makes you better as in you want some ice cream and you eat some and then you feel happy for a short time mainly thats mostly what It Is.

Hi Czafle..I am very fond of ice creams and I eat an ice cream whenever i wish to, be it when i am sad or when i am happy. However, in a situation where i was upset or sad, I did not feel any relief after eating an ice cream. So, I guess its purely psychological or may be it differs from person to person.
