Is your TV secured?

This has been running through my mind since I heard on the news the other night that a small child was killed when a TV fell over on it. The 32-inch TV was on a dresser and evidently the child must have been trying to get something up there when it fell. Now I have a 27-inch TV and it is quite heavy so I can imagine how heavy that TV was. Please, myLotters, if you have small children in your home, make sure that the TV set is secured so that nothing like this will ever happen.

That is truly awful worldwise - th eparents must be absolutely devestated. Our tv is on a stand it came with and apart from being quite low down it is very secure. If you even get one person thinking about how everyday things we would never think of as dangerous can kill little ones it is well worth while. M heart goes out to the parents of that poor toddler. xxx

we don't have children in the house but yes it is very heavy, our tv is 46 inches and it is on a solid table.

We have a floor model tv so it cannot tip over if a child pulled on it or bumped into it. I know it is very dangerous to have one on a stand when a child is around.

This is one of those tragic things that just doesn't have to happen. Hopefully it will automatically become a thing of the past as we'll probably move in the future to all flat screen TV's that don't weigh so much. Unfortunately that's probably not true of dressers - kids open the bottom drawer and stand on them, toppling the dresser - those can be secured too, but people just don't do it.

Gee, I never ever thought about that kind of thing happening! I didn't hear anything about it in the news. It's a good thing you started this thread so we'll all be more aware that it can, and does, happen. Poor child! I don't have any little ones running around, but still it's a good thing to make sure it's secured just in case somebody visits with a little kid. How terrible!
