What was your highest cell phone bill?

This lady at work was talking about having a family plan in which her daughter had a cell phone. She said her daughter ran the bill up to $600 just from texting. $600! That's alot of money! What's the highest one you've gotten? Was it because of texting, going over your minutes or was it the always the norm?

That's a lot balasri! At least it was only once. What did you do to lower it? Change plans or just watch your minutes? Thanks for the response.

Hey there Jenintn. The highest phone bill for me was $1056.32. I would never ever forget that figure, it caused me to be miserable for a whole month, by saving up and ultimately paying the bill.

Oh my..that is a high bill! I would have been miserable too. It would be easy to run one up though if you were talking to someone you really liked and they were overseas..lol...I bet paying it was tough. Thanks for responding.

O it was tough alright. It was my first month living and working outside my home country so I was just trying to drown my loneliness. It just made me more miserable my 2nd month...You are most welcome jenintn.

I forgot to say how I got that huge bill, silly me. Most of it was because of overseas call to my then girl friend.

$600 from texting alone? Hmm... assuming the cost of one text message is the same in your country as it is in mine, $600 divided by $0.05 makes that 12000 messages in a month!!!! That is like frigging 400 messages a day! Given that you sleep 8 hours a day, that still works out to an average of 25 messages per hour. Which is about 2 messages every minute! I am not surprised at that bill my friend. Kids now a days are using SMS like they do when using a online chat program. With one worded messages like 'K' in response to a question, it is no wonder they chalk up so much SMSs in a month! Other than budgeting her usage by using a prepaid plan, there is no way to control such rampant usage of SMSs. Cos they are not paying the bill, they will never feel the pinch!

Yeah, those forwarding messages can be such a pain. And the best part of it is, these kids are happily sending and forwarding them to everyone and anyone! Till they start to pay for their own bill, they will never feel the pinch of the usage they are chalking up every month!

LOL..it was about 12000. Her mom was livid because she was doing it during school and at all other times too. It has become quite the fad. I agree that prepaid is the way to go with teens...they've even got forwards now too. Forward this to ten friends or bad luck..lol Thanks for the response.

We have 5 phones on ours. Our highest was one month when a couple of $10 charges showed up, something about putting our phone number into something on the internet. Never again!

jen, my cell is a prepaid one. my son gave it to me years ago. i very seldom ever use it because i don't go much but i am glad i have it. a $600 bill is outrageous. i'd be buying her some stamps & stationary & tell her to write a letter after she got over her injuries. lol

My high bill was with cingular too. Apparently they charge $.35/min for every min you go over (which can add up super fast!)

$1200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I started a discussion about that bill a long time ago, but long story short, the person who ran up my bill is no longer on the plan and I talked them down to only paying $650 (still way way way to much!!!)

A bill of $600 sounds quite high to me. If I convert it at the current rate in Indian Rupees, which is Rs.42/- per dollar approximately, it will be come out 42 x 600 = Rs.25,200/-. It seems quite an exorbitant figure to me...........oh! Gosh! She must have used the phone very extensively. In Indian Rupees mine was not more than Rs. 600/- that too when I availed roaming facility meaning there by I was away from my home city and had to pay for incoming and outgoing charges at higher rates then what I pay when I am using the cell phone at my home network.

It is hard to believe that the phone bill can be quite expensive. My phone bill is not expensive at all. I tend to send SMS via the net free of charge. And my phone company gives me one hour call every month and it's enough for me. If I want to make an international call, I will call by skype. USD600 can already buy a good cellphone. I don't understand why your friend's daughter will spend so high phone bills. It's hard to believe. I love China

Text messaging has become a very big thing here. Alot of the kids would rather do that than talk. There are packages to ease the pain but sometimes they are a little expensive and involve miutes that are never used. It is hard to elieve and a very outrageous bill. Thanks for responding.

I have not had a high cell phone bill since my first phone back in the late 90's. The highest I ever got was $250. Which back then was a really high bill I guess. It sounds like your friend needs to get that unlimited text plan I have seen in commercials.

My highest cell phone bill was around four hundred dollars. We don't usually have this high of an amount, but we ended up going over our minutes for that month. It took us a few months to get it taken care of since we couldn't pay that bill in full for that month.

That is ridiculous!! I rarely use my phone or text so I pay my basic bill each month. If I want to contact someone, I will email them or call them. Texting takes too long. I only use it if I cannot get in touch by phone call or email and need to send an important message. If I use 2 texts per month, that is a lot.

Well Jen, if I compare my cell phone bill that she would remain far left in the Sahara Desert. If it is $600 it would be around Rs. 1200/- rupees in Indian currency. You believe I have paid Rs. 10,000/- mobile bill once. It would be $5000. Still I am a happy man.

£/$0!! I don't have a cellphone and don't want one. My friend's daughter ran up a large bill once o her dad's contract mobile and it cost her all her savings! I notice that the cellphone industry over here is struggling. They just laid off 500 people from one of our big providers. Other companies will shed too I suspect.

Good for you p1kef1sh! Those bills can get very high very fast when letting a child have one. I would say these companies are suffering as people cut back on things they don't really need.

wow that is too much... i think har har har. lucky me that i am on a pre-paid plan. i buy my cellphone load by card and i can controll on how am i going to consume it. i think that is more convinient and economical for me. the pre-paid cards came on 100 pesos, 300 pesos, 500 pesos and a thousand pesos. so 100 pesos is maybe 2.75 dollars... so far so economical.

LOL..me too tudors! My head would launch as well. Texting is the new fad and I think if you don't get a package or if they exceed their limit it can run anywhere from 10 cents to a quarter a piece. I think prepaid is best if your going to get one for a kid.
