Personal Responsibility

I believe taking away a persons or societies personal responsibilities and giving it to the government, as Obama and the Democrats seems to want to do, will cause us to become a socialist nation. FDR started us in that direction, LBJ enhanced it and Obama seems to want to take it to its conclusion. Am I right or wrong?

I agree, I think your right. When we take away personal responsibility, it will be our down fall. This is what the "American Dream is all about.

You and I might know that the "American Dream" was and is built on personal responsibility, but I bet there's a lot who will disagree. Like the ones who say it's not fair for the doers to have and they not to have. That wealth should be redistributed.

That is the basic differece I see between the parties. Democrats want more gov control over peoples lives and responsibility. Make the gov responsible for taking care of people. To make the population dependent on the government. While the Republicans want less government control. To allow people to make their own choices (good or bad). THey want people to be responsible for taking care of themselves. Personally I find the deomcrats right now be to very arrogent and playing the general population as stupid. They think we are too stupid to make our own choices. Too stupid to take care of ourselves. I am very insulted. I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself and thinking for myself thank you very much.

The problem with the government taking care of people is that we the people are the ones paying for it with our taxes. If everyone decides to let the government take care of them, where does that leave us? We know that that isn't going to happen, because there are people who are responsible people; but just like businesses who have moved their business overseas because of the tax laws, there is a limit to how much responsible people will take. Speaking for myself, it just flies all over me when I see someone, who has made no effort what so ever, getting federal aid. I feel as though I've been robbed and in a manner of speaking, I have.

Hello Bestboy, Ya' know what's really ironic about this discussion? Well, as I see it, it is the prospect that one can actually turn over their 'personal responsibility' to beurocracies which survive because of the propensity to offer (and be accepted) excuse after excuse for unacceptably poor performance. Take the US Government for example: They have bankrupted our educational system, Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid, as well as the US Treasury yet people want to turn over the state of health and financial well being to them. Wow! I'm beginning to wonder if there really is something in the water!

Excuse after excuse and blame after blame. Have you noticed, it's never their fault. And because our children have been dumbed down so much, they are no longer able to reason. I'm afraid that's exactly how the government wants it.

Unfortunately, you are right, but no one in this silly country could figure it out until it was too late. Now he's the President. He was the most Liberal Senator in the history of America, and now he's President. I can't believe how blind this country was when they elected him, I know I wasn't one of his "followers". We are really heading down the wrong road in this country now. Socialism does not work, as it has been proven iver and over again in other countries. Ask anyone in Great Britain how fun it is to wait for 6-9 months to get an operation for something. I wish there was some way to stop him, but even with all of our voices screaming during the election, no one heard us, and now we will suffer for years to come. Oh well...

We could have screamed until we were blue in the face and it would not have done any good. I think maybe the best way to wake up people is to let the problem fall on them. Their own personal suffering can scream louder than we can.
