When you eat, do you stop when you feel full? Or do you eat past that point

Hi eaforeman6! I really eat just enough for me to feel satisfied. I really do not wait until I get full because I feel lazy when I am full. haha..I just want to sleep afterward. I do believe that eating too much can really cause a lot of weight gain.
Take care and blessings to you.

That is so true! A full tummy can really make you want to have a nice nap. It is really not good when you cannot take a nap and you are that full. Reminds me of Thanksgiving....Appreciate the response!~

Heyya eaforeman! I try to eat until I get full but I also do this slowly. I read somewhere that it takes your brain a full 5 minutes to "realize" it and so by the time you begin to feel it you've been full for a while. Eating slowly seems to help. I do think overeating in this way causes weight gain.

I agree with you. I think we have to be aware and slow down. This living in a rush and eating in a rush...is causing alot of health problems. I think we have more gulping it down, then slowly chewing it, going on!

I hold my hands up here to say that I will actually eat past that point, I hate wasted food and not having an empty plate, I do feel guilty as well because whenever mum cooks me something she knows that I have enjoyed it when I return with an empty plate, she is sensitive like that and if I come back with food I haven't eaten she thinks I haven't enjoyed it and feels deflated. I believe that picking causes weight gain, when you are making food for the family and you start eating off their plates etc and yes it can lead to weight gain if your body says that's enough and yet you are still stuffing food down it. One trick is to chew slowly, trouble is I can do that on cold food but not hot, there's nothing worse than a hot dinner gone cold because you have taken soooo long to eat it. Bring on the salads!

I can understand about your mum's cooking. When a person cooks and puts the effort in, they take pride in it. I know that you have said that your mom is a very good cook. People, including me, cook for others to enjoy it. So, If I cook for someone, and they do not eat it...I think that something may be wrong with my cooking. I have not had much leftover food when I cook...they usualy eat it all. I guess it is because I try to cook things that I know they like. Or I will ask them, what do you like?

When I am full, I stop eating. Even if my plate is still full. It is never good to eat for the sake of eating.

Thats very true! I pay attention to this. I know it is bad to watch tv and eat I wonder if people are aware of it, would it help them loose weight? Appreciate the response and happy mylotting.

I try to eat only until I am full....but sometimes I think if its a dessert or something I like to finish it even if I am full...I do think it has something to do with weight gain though it's funny that I can eat more then my sister and she out weights me by quite a bit....I don't snack much though and she does....

I have seen alot of people eat without even paying attention to how much. You know like at buffets, when people tend to go a lil overboard. I have watched them with huge plates of food. I know it has to hurt them and be very uncomfortable to eat that much food.

The idea is to stop eating before you are too full. I wait 15 to 20 minutes when I am not sure if I want something else or not and by the end of the time I usually find that I'm full and I don't want anymore.
I think reducing portions is the best way to lose weight and not dieting because, I don't know about you but the minute I tell myself I'm on a diet I start craving chocolate!

Actually I rarely eat until I'm completely full, because I dont like it when my stomach gets that tight feeling, but if I happen to get full usually stop eating at that point, because I dont think its healthy to always eat until your full, but instead just eat until you dont feel hungry anymore, but I think everyone has there greedy moments when it comes to eating.

I think that you are very right. It is not good to eat untill you are so uncomfortable because there is a reason why it does not feel good. I also agree that sometimes, we do get a bit greedy and we do it. Especialy on a food that we realy love.
