have them for the winter. What all will you freeze and how do you do it. Do you blanche it or do you use a preservative? Which foods from the summer crops will freeze the best?

The only thing i freeze are blackberries that i go and pick off the bushes here in oregon. i can pick enough for a few extra pies and other things like blender drinks. I just throw them in a ziplock bag and freeze thenm after i wash them. They are free might as well take advantage of it.

I love berries. I add them to the blender and make smoothies. I also make pancakes with them. They are very delicious. I hope you enjoy your berries. Appreciate the response, and have a great time mylotting!

I can grow really nice plants and gardens. I was raised doing this, after being around it all of your life, your bound to learn something. I just do not have alot of space. I am growing romas in the pots. I will see how they do. I have never done them in the pots before. Appreciate the response and happy mylotting!

I just purchased some red peppers at Sam's club today at a great price. I wash them, cut them up and put some in the fridge and the rest in baggies in the freezer. I've never had any problem freezing them this way. I toss them in with all sorts of cooked dishes. I am hoping to have a garden with at least some green beans, peppers and tomatoes. I usually blanch the beans and tomatoes before I freeze them. I take the skins off the tomatoes and crush them and put them in containers. I used to can them but I think freezing is simpler and just as good when I use them to add to recipes. I also froze some strawberries today that were on sale. I try to do this when prices are good. I'm feeling rather domestic as I made some homemade chicken stock a couple of weeks ago and froze most of that too. heehee

Those are great ways to do it. I am doing things like this all summer. I am very picky about the freezer being packed in the summer and ready for winter. I love to have everything well stocked. You are right and this is what we should be doing. It is so much nicer in the winter to have it all right there, ready to go. Appreciate the response, girlfren, and dont work too hard!

Gosh! I hope I don't sound like a Know-it-all! I'm always looking for new ways to save a few pennies and I have a lot to learn!
