why not put a real picture as AVATAR ?

Many men many minds. Therefore perhaps we have variety and variety is the spice of life. And as spice is there life becomes tasty and only a tasty life is worth living. Now coming to my point on avatar. An avatar is a sign to represent a person, a sort of masque. Some people put something else there to stand for them and some put the real picture of the real person or the user in such sites. The nagging part is why most people are not interested or keen or prepared or in a position or just do not like to put the real picture there. I feel one should give. This is not without reason. Suppose one with the name of Waltor is my friend here @ mylot but he has put up a flower to represent him, now if by chance I happen to be flying to the country where he is living and again by chance he is sitting on the seat next to mine and have started a discourse. If I had seen his photo earlier I would be curious and would ask if he was Waltor and if said yes, just think how it would feel? So why not putting real picture?

I am a very private person. I don't put my pic on the internet or anywhere. I've always been like that...it's how I am. I don't like cameras, stages or attention...I shrink terribly. My aviator does represent me, however. I was out walking when I picked up that butterfly and flower. I also wrote a poem .If we were sitting next to each other on a flight and struck up a conversation and it led to a friendship that meant anything then I am pretty sure that in due time the fact that we knew each other from mylot would come out and it would be cool. As many as there are on here that I would not mind running into in person....there are as many that I don't want to know on sight.

Hi Sid, I respect your point of view. This is in fact this way or that way. Even if no original pic and we are stinting together next to next in a flight it would finally lead to mylot if we at all we break into speeches. Nice way to defend. Thanks for participation.

I can appreciate your point but a lot of people don't want to be recognized outside MyLot for different reasons. There are some who may have revealed secrets about themselves they may not want to be associated with in the "real" world, others may just be shy and very uncomfortable with their photo being on the Internet. For me I have my photo as my avatar on several sites and I thought I would try something different for MyLot and I liked the picture I chose so there you go. My Associated Content Page has my photo and so has Helium and of course Facebook and my blog, so believe it or not, I'm out there! It's personal preference I think and I don't think it's as important as what we've got to say.

You are right on your stand. Many people do not like their picture went to the NEt and the like but I feel putting a real one is not potentially harmful. I have been active in some 4 different sire and everywhere have uploaded my actual pic. Thanks Paula, for elaborating.

Hi krajibg..At first I thought you were starting a discussion that only spicey tasty men were worth living.!! I was about to agree!!. However your topic is a good one and I agree and would also like to know everyones answer. It would be so nice to see who we are talking to. It has happened to me that I have recognized a person in public from an avatar. But I must tell you why I cant show my real face. You see I have 3 heads and such long green hair it wouldnt fit in that little avatar box. And you thought all along that was me!..well maybe it is and maybe it isnt, but see, it just shows that even if everybody did promise to post their pic, how do we know it is really them? Now that I got that off my mind, I wish people would use their real pics. I think we would feel a closer connection with who we are talking to. That is as long as we remember, never judge a book by its cover!

Hi Sandy 1I agree with you to the fullest. I had to go into some argument over this issue. Anyway that is the 'spice', pure Indian spice ha? Your people therefore got stuck here for the tasty food. I guess you got what I mean. Just a minute you got three head mean is it literal or figurative? It always feels more closeness if the picture I am writing to is there. Thanks for all the spicy stuff. You can address me as Rajib. This is my first name.

Well one may like his or her own picture and may adore it too.It may be of significance which can bring back so many memories and other things to oneself. But what it is to others? It could be just another mugshot which does not convey anything.By choosing a character or animation one can convey a message, his taste and style which a personal photo can never archive.Personally this is the reason for not flashing my picture as an avatar here.My avatar is man seeking for knowledge and friendship with inquisitiveness. It is written all over the man with a question mark. "Spread a smile"

I think that I am terrible misunderstood. I am the last person to be with a confronting attitude here. I was just telling my view on the subject. I am a very friendly person and ants to be friendly with you too. All my beautiful friends I managed to gather here in mylot over a period of three years can vouch for me. Hope you will understand and accept my friendship.

Had all people in this world be alike it would be another hell to live. You sound quite logical in your speech but another would come out with much stronger argument than that of yours. And there lies the fun. Can you tell that I really asked for all to put their original or real picture? No? Then why this confrontational attitude? Are always in search of some issue so that we can demean some one? That is not fair. You put your pic or a pic of a donkey that is your choice what I was telling was that it would have been better if we could see the pic of one another. Now you disagree and is this a way to show your disagreement? If wish to fight come to the ground. I am not without strength. But better avoid it.

I'm pretty shy and so I normally use various pictures of dragons as my avatar. I have several and use them depending on my mood. For some reason I still can't figure out, I decided on a change for this site. I've been here for 3 years about and for the first time ever have been using this avatar since the beginning ...I'm glad that this time I decided to go with my self portrait. It's my favourite picture of me as it captures my wacky sense of ready wit, my modesty, my good looks and my sincere and happy smile. I'm really happy to have my real picture here.

I don't like being in front of a camera-being able to have a degree of anonymity with an Avatar that's NOT my photo suits me better..I don't want people responding to my discussions based on their first impressions of a mugshot of mine on the page..it might put them off! Besides, the spread of mylotters is such that I doubt somebody sitting beside me on a plane would recognise Me from it..I've a very ordinary face!

I use to put my own photo as my avatar in any site that I have joined but, I am not really sure why but, I feel that I have a different identity when it comes to cyber space. At least, I still provide a real photo within my profile but, the main photo would be any of my drawings that could best describe my mood in any common day. Wouldn't it be interesting when you look at someone's avatar and start to imagine yourself having a discussion with that particular image, let's say that his or her main image is his or her foot. That foot would be an intellectual who could provide as much insight as to any topic that you could start with. You could go for hours just talking about your point of views and even be clarified with each other's opinions. Yet, all in the beginning, you were simply conversing with that foot. Humor or any other sensation when one decides to what to represent themselves in their profile picture or avatar, it's their thoughts that gets more identified while, the images only provide visuals.

Hi, friend. Foremost, I have to say that I've noticed the change in your avatar. As always, I have been away from mylot community for the weekend because I stayed at home. And this morning when I chanced upon your profile together with 1 of the discussions you've started, I learned that you decided to change your avatar. Not that I mean anything, but if your previous avatar is your picture I find you healthier/chubbier than now; if your new avatar is also your photo. Please don't get offended, okay. Anyway, I guess there is something scary about placing one's real-life photo; and this goes to some people. Another reason might be the fact that they choose not to be known by everyone. Or, they prefer segregating their real friends from the online ones. Admittedly, I didn't place my picture here right away until after some time. Frankly, this isn't my photo but this is my daughter's. I do miss her because most of the time, she is with my parents in the province while my spouse (her dad) and I work here in the city. Regards, friend.

Hi,there,I totally agree with you.Real pictures as avatars can save a lot of trouble. The reason why I dont put a real picture as avatar here is that I dont have any good pictures at hand.My avatar is a cartoon character now,its hard for mylotters to tell whether Im male or female.Im a girl from China.Nice to meet you here.Happy mylotting!

The Real Me - image of myself..self=portrait
I really wouldn't have a problem about using my actual photo of me as an avatar, it's just that my kitty avatar sort of makes a statement. Number one, I actually do have a black cat named Pyewacket. When I learned/taught myself computers about four years ago, and was using the free usage of computers in libraries, I wanted to come up with a user name that I could remember and came up with pyewacket....then in a way it just made sense to use a picture of a black cat in honor of my own cat--the picture is from the photo of a cover of a book I have, called Your Magical Cat and it looked perfect for me....I've been using it ever since I include here though a self-portrait of me

Hello krajibg! I totally agree with you here. I like with what you said that what if you'll fly to other country and you don't know that the person beside you is the person whom you have talked to here in mylot. I like your idea. I actually never thought about that. In my case, I am using my real picture here although I am a shy person too. I am proud of who I am and I know that there's nothing I have to hide here because I am being myself and I didn't do anything bad here.

Hi,krajibg, I think the majority comes here to be someone else, but not to be themselves because they are tired of the reality they live in.If I really enjoy my life, why should I spend so many hours in front of a screen? It means I'm not satisfied with my life fully.Mylot is a stage for me, I'm an actor here.this is not a real life.Of course, we talk about serious things and give serious advices, but is this really me who participates here?Of course not. It's my avatar, it's my mind,it's my emotions. My soul.If this was a dating site, then yes, I should do this because nobody would date a ghost without face. And one more thing. When I guy puts his picture, the reaction is like"Young, old, tall, average, ok, it's a guy, who cares".When we give girl's pic, both men and women want to know if she's beautiful.Men are looking for pretty girl to date with, women compare themselves with person in the photo. Is she better or worse than me.Putting an avatar helps me to avoid all these comparisons and competitions.

People have different things. I never thought on that line. I was just curious as to why many people put rather a symbol than putting the real pic. I understand the problem usually girls/women face on such site. Might be that is the cause. No misunderstanding on this I hope.
