So.... do you think the world is going to end in 2012? Why? I saw a preview for a movie with this title and I have even heard people TALKING about what they believe. Is there some specific reason you think this date has a significance? Fill me in please, I need to understand your brand of crazy.... err ATTEMPT to understand!

My understanding is that its an ancient prediction by the Mayas or Aztecs that the world is going to end on 12/12/2012. They have supposedly predicted alot of things that have come true. I'm not sure if its there prediction that its going to be by asteroid or if thats just another theory. I don't believe it but my best friend does. I believe that when the world ends no one is going to be aware of the day or time.

I don't think anybody will see it coming, and that's why I poo-pooh the whole idea of 'the world is ending on this date' or 'this event precedes the end of the world'. Remember Y2K? Everybody scrambling to 'fix' things for the year 2000? I can't believe more people don't remember that and look back and think 'why would I even have THOUGHT that' to begin with. I do. I think back and think that people just went crazy. I didn't because I don't buy into it. I remember the 'government conspiracy' stuff surrounding 1984 too and I've read Animal Farm. Sometimes I think that we are just too highly creative and we create our own troubles and problems and then bring down others by sharing our horrific visions of a future we don't even know. I'm positive about the future, of the world actually. I don't see any danger to be honest.

All I can do is try to make changes for the better in my own life and MY part of the world. I can't think on a global scale, there are too many people working against me, and I don't need that kind of stress. What I think of is being kind to those I come in contact with (unless they smacked me in the head with something... heh) and then perhaps they will take that and pay it forward. If I tip my waitress well, maybe she will be happy and treat her co-workers nicer, she will go home and play with her son, hug her husband, little things like that. Likewise if I go around people when I am in a rotten mood and prone to saying mean things, I would spread my negativity, which is why i try to keep to myself if I am miserable. It's like the ripple effect, and it exists everywhere. Some days it might not make much of a difference, another day it might be your smile that changes someone's mind so they don't go home and blow their brains out.... yes I think about some pretty odd things.

I try to be positive...but i look around and have to say that the world is in a downward spiral and if something doesn't change it will end...but not like how people think it will and not when people think it will.

I would say that the future is no yet, therefore an illusion. I would say that dreamers can either be negative or positive, but remain dreamers. This 2012 business came about because the Mayan calendar ended in that year. But they had to end it sometimes or they would be forever writing, right up to this day and beyond. Time after all is infinite. I like my dreams to be happy and positive.. . Derek

Yes, there is no meaning in life, other than life itself. Meanings are for the small intellectual mind. The timelessness of energy (which is what we really are), cannot have a meaning if it is forever. - Derek

I agree with you. Time is infinite ... and our understanding is finite, and humans always have to make up an explanation to explain things that have no reason. Why we can't just let it go is the biggest mystery to me.... It doesn't bother me that we don't KNOW. I don't think it matters. People think if they know or think they know that it gives meaning, it doesn't.

Nope! I don't thik the world will end in 2012. Mostly cause I think I'm going to be a grandma one day and there's no way to have grandkids if my own kid doesn't survive to adulthood. Anyway, as far as the gloom and doom predictions, I think it's related to one of those Nostradamus predictions. I don't put much stock in those things anyway.

Hi mommyboo, The reference is to the Mayan calendar and I doubt that it refers to the end of the world, but remember we do have the ability to end civilization as we know it. I think it refers to a change, probably a spiritual awakening which would be very good for mankind. Scientists feel that this earth will be around for at least another two billion years but the end of this world for each of us will be when we die and we have no way of knowing when that will happen. Blessings.

Yep, the end of the world is a very personal and different journey for each of us, and I prefer to always see it that way as opposed to a global disaster/crisis/event/happening. I would tend to agree with the scientists with their theory that the earth will continue. Perhaps it will just be our view or vision that changes. Who knows, maybe after this life we still inhabit the earth but in a dimension or parallel unseen by the living....

The world will end will it ends. I think it is crazy to put any sort of time limit on it, because the universe is always changing and is highly unpredictable. I think that dwelling on such things is just wasting the time we could be spending on our own lives. There is more to life than worrying about 'what ifs', so listening to hype is only going to stop you from living your life.

I agree too. I am not sure what to think about everybody who is caught up in the mass hysteria the media causes. Small minds indeed lol. People shouldn't waste their time, as we live, it goes, and we don't know how much we are each allotted. What-ifs really do paralyze people and prevent them from the reasons they are here and stop them from enjoying all the possibilities.

I do not give much credence to these reports - of the end of world in 2012 . I believe that we would survive longer than that ,unless some stupid people do very very crazy things and explode multiple Nuclear bombs on the planet .

I guess I can't put it past people to do stupid things. After all, my hair dryer has a tag on it that states - do not use while sleeping. So someone actually tried that? Maybe they electrocuted themselves or set their hair on fire. I also think that humans - who should have a great sense of self preservation and avoid things that might destroy them as a species - have a horrible absorption with WEAPONS and things that hurt and kill other creatures AND themselves! That's it... we are completely nuts. I'd like to speak with whoever programmed us at once, the coding is erroring out!

appreciate your take! I agree, I think it is people thinking they can predict and sell other people on the idea is what bugs me. I guess I don't like to see people taken in by garbage, as is so obviously happening....

Well there were some rumors about this in between, and also had some proving letters too but i am not sure if the world going to end or no as there is a start for everything there will be an end no matter even if that end is today itself but are we good enough to die peacefully?? have we done anything good or humble before dying? if not i think its the time we shoudl start being good to everyone and spread love. :)

It just makes me laugh with everything we as humans don't know (and aren't SUPPOSED to know) that some of us even have the arrogance or nerve to believe they know something like 'the end of the world'. I just don't know where people come up with these ideas, it's just like religion, you can't prove it but neither can you disprove something such as 'faith'. Whatever it is IS real to the person who believes, and therein lies the issue, most of the time the person who believes says that just because THEY do that it is an absolute. Either way, I don't think the end is coming, and I don't question faith but I don't necessarily agree in everybody else's version of 'truth' either. I just can't. We are all unique for a purpose and we aren't all supposed to agree or believe the same thing.
