Do You hire An Accountant To Do Your Taxes, Or Do You Do Them Yourself?

Canada

I am lousy at math, so I have an accountant that does my taxes. He's been doing my entire family's taxes for years. I'm Canadian. My husband is American, and he does his own taxes. I'd have him do mine, but Canadian and American taxes are different, and we both think it's wise to keep the accountant on tax. I have an American Tax ID for money I make in the USA. He can take care of the American portion of my taxes, but the accountant is still always going to do my Canadian taxes.

If I only have to file for myself I can do it online. The software is informative enough. But because I have to file for my business and then my husband's employment and investment, I'd rather have an accounting service do it. He also gives us financial tips and advices that we don't have to pay because we already pay for the tax filing. I think in your case it is wise to have an accountant to do it. Tax laws are changing so this way you can just leave it to your accountant to deal with it.

Mine are pretty easy... $0. My husband does both our taxes. He used to get H&R Block to do them but didn't want to spend the money. One year he bought the online program but I told him it wasn't worth it since you could only use it for one year.

I have an Accountant to Do my taxes. I have been using the same person since Graduate school. Before her I was clueless as to all the deductions aforded to me. Once I started using her, my refund grew. I also trust that if I was ever in an audit I would have them represent me. I don't think I would understand anything of what they were asking. Take care

Means you have to pay taxes in Canada and USA? double taxing? Do you work in two countries per year? I do all of my taxes, it is very easy.

Hope she makes enough in America. If you pay taxes in Canada, on American application you just state that you paid in Canada, this way you have tax discount.

We usually do them ourselves. Or rather hubby does them, I look pretty and pretend I"m helping LOL In your case, however, I think you have chosen the right solution, because the situation is different.

Speaking of taxes, I think I better get going here on my side, hahaThe due date is 30th June but it's best not to put off until then. I always do my own taxes which also includes my company taxes. I wish I had the luxury of having someone do mine but the thought of paying so much just to get a simple thing done just made me think twice, haha Yes yes, the Chinaman that always counts his cost, haha

That all sounds a bit confusing to me, my friend. I'm not too bad at maths but when it comes to doing accounts and taxes, that gives me a headache. I think I'd probably leave it all up to my accountant. lol. Brightest Blessings.

I do not know about Canadian taxes, but American taxes are too complicated for me. This Danish American hires a tax lady to do my taxes. She does them for me every year. The American tax code is very complicated. I think that i would make a lot of mistakes if i did my own taxes.

I always do my own taxes. Unless I am in business, I see no justification to hire an accountant to do my taxes. The tax structure here is rather simple, and in my opinion, the tax authorities in fact help a lot with many default values if I submit my tax online.

I am self employed and I keep my own books. I try to keep them up and have them done every month but sometimes I get behind and then it takes me a while to catch them up. I finally got all of my books caught up for the year last year and now I am almost ready to have my income tax done. I send everything over to my sister and she does the tax part of it. She has her own income tax and bookkeeping company so she knows all of the rules and all of the things that I am allowed to deduct. I could probably do my income tax myself but since this is something my sister does for a living and she does mine for nothing, I may as well let her do them. So I have to courier all my stuff to her within the next week or so, so she can do them. I also do my daughters books, she is also self employed and so I will be sending her stuff with mine so my sister can do her also. I won't be getting a refund because I haven't paid anything yet so I know I will be paying again this year. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Have a good mylotting day, Chris

I used to have an accountant do mine - with my parents however after i finished school my tuition couldnt be applied towards my dad's income tax so i did them once with an accountant on my own decided not again until i have more than a couple donations a couple t4s (usuallly only one) and some medical receipts. I do them myself now because i HATED having to pay someone 80 dollars to do them for me when i can get the software and do them myself for 30-40 dollars.
