Does your Toddler wake up once they have been put to bed??

My one year old has slept through the night from about 4 weeks old without incident even when she was cutting her first few teeth. She has a routine of bath, milk & bed which has worked really well and has no problem going off to sleep except if you stay in the room. In the last week or 2 she has been put to bed and within an hour or two she is awake. She generally just talks to herself, plays with her cuddly toys and goes back to sleep. Occasionally she'll cry and I can tell she is still very tired. I don't want to just go into her everytime she is awake as she'll think it's a game but I feel guilty if I don't check on her. I have moved her cot so I can see her but she still knows your there!! Have you experienced this?? Did you just leave them to get on with it?? Thanks MrsL x x

If you can hear her and she sounds happy and is not upset then leave her to it thats what I do, i only go to mine when they actually cry or now they can when they shout mummy i need you. It is not cruel to not go in to check on her after all its not like you are leaving her screaming she is simply playing, and learning to go back to sleep by theirselves is a wonderful skill to give your child so dont feel bad for allowing her the oppurtunity to learn this skill xxxx

Thanks for the response. With our eldest one it seemed so much easier, I never expected to have a second child and I suppose I can't help but want to be with her! I think thats why I always feel guilty! Thank you MrsL x

Our boy used to wake up occasionally during the night. The only way we knew he had, was because he had one of those little child music boxes in his bed and he would push the button to turn it on and at some point go back to sleep. He never really got fussy or bothered to get out of bed and come into our room, he'd just entertain himself with the music.

I've got two children, and my son was the perfect baby who did all those things you only hear about. Slept threw the night from an early age and still does. My little girl, who's had some medical issues is a hurricane in it's self. She's up and down threw out the night some nights, other nights she don't sleep threw the night, and then there are nights she crashes out and I have to check to make sure she's ok. I can only hope she will get on a better schedule because it's wearing me completely out.

It is hard looking after your children, especially poorly children!! I hope she grows out of it and you manage to get some time to recover yourself x MrsL x x
