The cost of a dissolution of marriage

It's been about three months since my husband and I split up. We went yesterday to get the paper work for out divorce. It's just a simple dissolution of marriage since we don't have anything together, no kids and no property. To get the paper work is only $15 which isn't really bad considering how many pages there are. I thought the lady was handing me a book to fill out. But to file for a simple divorce costs $408! I feel like I am being ripped off. $408 to go into the court room with the judge for maybe ten minutes so he can say, "Is there any way this marriage can be fixed." and to sign the paper? It costs less to get married than it does to get divorced! I feel like they should make marriages cost more and divorces cost less. It shouldn't be the hard to get out of a relationship with someone. Now it's going to take me longer to get divorced. I know they are just trying to make it to were people try to work things out before getting a divorce, but when there's no working it out, it shouldn't cost more than a paycheck to get it over. What are your views on this. Do you think it's unfair for them to charge so much for so little time?

Hi angel, I have no idea about this since in our Country, divorce is not legalized but I agree with you, they have to make it affordable for everyone since we all know, no one will file a divorce when they can still work out the relationship!

What country is that? Wow, does that make people think twice before getting married? I know I had to think twice before getting married! Are you allowed to separate?

It is often said that it is cheaper to get married than to divorce! I am sorry to hear about your trouble, but it sounds like you are better off, or soon to be better off. I often wonder what my life would be like if I stayed single. Never a dull moment, that is for sure! I think we can do without most judges in our lives.
