Do you read discussions full of TXT speak?

I love reading the discussions on mylot, to get peoples thoughts on certain topics and questions I'm not brave enough to post. The real pet hate I do have is when the discussion or even a response is full of text speak! It's like the person cannot be bothered to write out in full what they are saying. I regard it in the same way I do writing in red pen, It's rude. Leave it where it belongs, in txt msg!! What are your thoughts? Does it bother you? Do you use it for everything? Is the younger generation losing the ability to read/write correctly regardless of what they are taught at school?? Thank you MrsL x x

i understand reckon that, the main reason for the shortcuts used in txt msg is because of the few lines that limits the msg that can be sent at a single time. now that they have developed cellphones which can accommodate a good amount of msg, the people are already so used to resorting to using shortcuts when sending txt msg. i like the way you put it that we should write in full letters here in mylot. after all, there is no reason at all why we should be saving on the length of our responses. there is ample space provided for our discussions and responses.

Your right, people should write in full 'letters' & leave text speak for text messages!! Thanks MrsL x x

I feel too that there is a time and a place for everything. Text language should be used when texting and not when writing here on myLot. I guess the problem is though that many of those, especially the youngsters, who use text daily do not realise there is any difference and it just becomes their normal way of writing. So sad.

I don't believe that text speak belongs on mylot os, yes, it bugs me, too. I don't normally text but it's the same as IM speak and I end up getting IM'd whenever I'm not ghosting on AOL so I know what the poster is saying but it's not relevent to the ideals of mylot, which is quality communication.

I always assume when I see text speak on discussions that it is someone very young doing it, but I could be wrong. I also assume that the person is lazy! I think it is much easier to read and understand things that are written properly, but maybe that is because I wasn't brought up with texting, and only use it to send messages.

I had to laugh when I read your post. I do feel the same way as you. My two younger children 11 and 13 (both who have cell phones) firmly believe that the correct way to spell "are you" is....r u. I have a hard time keeping up with proper TXT lingo, however, I rarely text anyone anyways. I

i hardly read discussions which are being delivered here in txt msg presentation. i do not have the sufficient patience to decipher what is really meant by those abbreviations. for me, mrsl, i hardly use those kind of messaging even when i txt my relatives and friends. i am never confident that they'd get me right if i do so. as for those texts that i receive in that txt msg format, you can be sure that it really takes me a while to decipher what is being driven at by the sender. as for those who post responses in this txt msg format here in mylot, i just hope that they'd limit this to those which are very easily understandable like u, ur, b, dat...

count me in hate to see it, fells kind of prudish but you should type out a message in a discuusion forum. I hate when people use those letter for laughing on the floor or whatever. I know this is not a txt mssage thing but I really hate when people use the word thanks with an "x" at the end. It just bothers me for some reason
