What sign should I hold up for Senator Mel Martinez to see on Saturday?

This weekend our little town hosts a yearly festival that's a very big deal. It's a three day event...Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There's a parade on Saturday morning which we always attend and everyone in it is up close and personal...local, county, and state officials including Senator Martinez...close enough to say a word or two to while they toss candy at the kiddies. So, as a follow up to Rodney's post...if I were to be standing in my usual spot where Mel Martinez will pass within 8 feet of me and if I were to be holding up a sign for him to see...what should it say? It needs to be short...the letters will have to be large for him to be able to read it. But, I'm willing to do this so share your ideas.

TRAITOR. I can think of few more but they would considered obscene so I won't go there. If you live in a high traffic area I would put up a yard sign with his picture and then write below it "constitutional traitor". Invite the local media out to cover it. You can make it pretty cheap. Print up a picture from his website. Use poster board and a yard stick to put it in your yard. Encourage your friend that live in high street traffic areas to do the same. Heck if someone wants to spend a few bucks you could make a flyer and print them up and pass them out. Put them up places. Mail one to him or if you get close enough hand him one. Got friends that will be alone the parade route? Get them to hold up signs too. Even if they are not close to him if they hold up a sign he will see it and read it. So will the people at the parade. THey may not know about this and it is a good chance to get the word out. As for what you should say....be polite or he will ignore you or take you for a crazy. Just stay the constitution is not ignorable. Or no one is above the constitution...even the president. Something like that. I know it is short notice but see if you can get a hold of your local constitutionalist, libertarian parties and the campaign for liberty. They are all constitution loves and may even stage a small protest or something to bring attention to the issue. If they can't do it on such short notice then maybe they can help with the phone calls to him and the local media to bring some real preasure on this guy. Sorry I was so long winded.

I live outside of town so a yard sign will only be seen by the dog across the street. My town is very, very tiny so we have no local television media...only a weekly paper that covers two counties. The closest tv stations are out of Ft. Myers but I could email them and let them know that there's going to be a protest about Martinez's remark. I don't have to say it'll only be a couple of people. So, it'll have to be a sign on a stick. I could make up a flier and have some of the grandnephews hand them to him when he gives them candy. They'll do it if I pay them a dollar. I don't know if I can get anyone else involved aside from my two daughters but we can spread out along the parade route. It's only about four blocks long....like I said, it's a small town. I do like "The constitution is not ignorable" and "no one is above the constitution" though. Mel is going to be so surprised!

The sad thing is that if the mainstream media isn't covering this, nobody, including him, will know what you're talking about. Unless he gets hammered he'll be too stupid to realize what he said wrong.

I really have no words to offer you. After reading Rodney's thread I have no respect left for him. Someone who blatantly and openly says that the constitution is meaningless in electing our president has no business representing the people of this country.

Like someone else mentioned below, this is his last term so what does he care about what comes out of his mouth?

he will care if the state papers and news are covering it and he leaves office in disgrace. His personal reputation will be torn apart. IF you can get enough people to know about and care enough to write their papers in protest, call radio stations, hound the news and most of all HOUNDS HIM. He may not have long left in office....but you can make him regret those words and rethink his stance on the constitution.

Hello Spalladino, Hmmm, how 'bout "Fire all elected officials who denounce the Constitution!" Then, on the back side ... "That means you Mel!" 'Course, perhaps much more impactful than carrying a sign, it's more affecting to ask everyone you know to call Mr. Martinez' office and give 'em a piece of your mind. What's more, the GOP leadership needs to be called to the mat for not already getting our elected representatives on board. The Constitution is NOT a living, breathing document -- amendable with the slightest whim and wimper. And, it's about time that our elected began paying the price for turning their backs on their oaths to uphold and defend it! Grrrrrr!!!

Awwww geeze, you're right, JG. I got all caught up in the moment and forgot the K.I.S.S. rule! I'm sure that the word CONSTITUTION will ring a faint bell somewhere in our legislators minds, don'cha think? Maybe???

Mel Martinez would not care if Obama was Satan himself he knows Obama 200% will get Mel Martinez illegal in to our country so the American tax payers can house, feed, educate and give them free medical. While I obviously disagree strongly with Mel's statements, what the he11 are you talking about, Rose? Mel is down here in Florida where our immigrants are 99% Cubans. There are different laws pertaining to people coming in from Cuba. If they're caught in the water they're returned to Cuba or another country but, if they make it to land, they are allowed to register and stay, eventually becoming permanent citizens. For this reason we have a very large Cuban population down here. Why on earth would would Martinez want more of them here and how could Obama possibly have any impact on existing law that allows them to stay?

Hold up a sign with a picture of a pig on it and "pork-a-licious" at the bottom to protest all the pork (earmarks) in the latest spending bill. Or make a sign that says "listen to us-we're the boss!" which I think every representative needs to hear. They've forgotten they're supposed to be voicing the opinions of their constituents, and they've forgotten who's the boss here!

The flier mentions that his views on our Constitution are not shared by those who put him in office...among several other goodies.
