On a sweltering hot day, there is nothing more refreshing than a nice cold refreshing glass of lemonade! Now there is yellow and there is pink..I love both but prefer the pink..But if lemons are yellow, then how do you make pink lemonade?? THere are various answers, all of them right!!

I'm not much for lemonade because it is just too sweet for my taste. Pink lemonade is made several ways. One is with food dye. Another is to add cranberry juice, grenadine, and crushed strawberries. There are pink lemons called variegated pink-fleshed Eureka lemons, but they usually are not used to make pink lemonade. These lemons really are pink. There are a couple of interesting stories about how pink lemonade came into being. Red cinnamon hearts accidentally were added to a batch of lemonade at a carnival concession. The other story is that a man named Pete Conklin who ran a circus lemonade and peanut concession actually was the one who invented the drink. One day in 1857, while Conklin was making regular lemonade, he ran out of water. In desperation, he used the pink water from a tub that one of the bareback riders had used to wash her red tights. Unfazed, Conklin added some lemon slices and sold the concoction as “strawberry lemonade,” promptly doubling his sales. And, as they say, when life gives you lemons. This story is from carnival historian Joe Nickell, in his 2005 book Secrets of the Sideshows,

I do usually add about a tablespoon or 2 to my drinking water every day but lemonade is made with sugar.

hehehehe...I read the same article while researching. Pretty interesting story I must say..I personally make pink lemonade with cherry juice from marashino cherries or strawberries..Odd that you find lemonade too sweet unless you tasted the sweetened type which is more a drink than an actual juice..Most people find it slightly tart in flavour. Try the unsweetened..

mmmm pink lemonade!! i haven't had that in YEARS!! overall i love lemonade, its refreshing on a nice hot summer day and i love the tartness ...hmm since there are obviously no pink lemons, my only logical theory would be food coloring!

I have no idea why I even thought of lemonade, here in the winter! Whatever the reason, I am now craving some and will be going looking for some tomorrow..Yes the food colouring is one way, but there are several more. Thanks for responding, and I hear its warming up after the deepfreeze in your part of the country!

My guess is artificial coloring to make the lemonade pink~ but I really have no idea. I also like to drink lemonade on hot days or even in the evenings. I like to drink pink too. I wonder what it is about pink lemonade verses yellow that would make both of us to like pink better.

I prefer yellow lemonade over Pink. Pink lemonade tastes like Pomelo and I think that's actually what some people do - they mix lemon juice with pomelo flavor in order to have a still lemony but different drink :P And it's pink! Thanks for the response on my discussion!
