I think tears is good for eyes, but crying is not good. I mean, we need tears to make sure that our eye-ball wet enough, it is so helpful avoiding irritation and fatique. But, too much tears of course even not good for eyes and will hurt tears-gland also make swollen.

Well, generally crying is good for our eyes. Exception is when you cry too much, our eyes gets swollen because of the pressure. Mild tears like a feeling of tears of joy is good, or a tear of an overwhelmed emotion. Of course, tears of pain and hurting heart is quite an exception. When we cry and tears are falling, it secretes dirt from inside, that is why we have to let it flow. However, as I mentioned, our eyes also get pressured when we tear too much, the veins of our eyes are likewise pressured which makes it swollen and reddish.

http://www.emotionalprocessing.org.uk/tears/is%20crying%20good%20for%20you.htm is interesting, about the scientific issues about crying, though it really doesn't answer the question ... http://blog.beliefnet.com/beyondblue/2009/02/7-ways-tears-and-crying-heal.html lists how tears help the eyes and one's psychological well-being. As for red swollen eyes, I found many suggestions. Some say it is the salt content in the tears, another says if the crying is prolonged it stresses the lacrymal apparatus in the eye. Some suggest cold compresses, potatoes, cucumbers, water, and sleep (for sleep, not right after stopping crying.)

I don't think crying is good for our eyes. It's good for our sad emotion as we ease ourselves from it when we cry. However our eyes need normal level of moisture to keep it from straining. If we get dry eyes we need to see an eye doctor to check them out. Believe it or not I've heard my own eyes *blinked* while watching tv. I couldn't believe it at first then I blinked again...then again...and I heard that funny sound again and again. That's how dry my eyes have become before. So off I went and got the Visine. It was weird. Take care.

It's supposed to be good for cleaning the eyes. Of course for everything there are limitations though. Don't cry too much.
