Do You Pinch Discussions ?

With so many Forum sites around nowadays, and most people involved in a few of them, do you or are you tempted ever to pinch a post/discussion on another Forum and post it on here ?

Hi jason! No it has never entered my head. My thoughts are unique as are those of others in other forums so I don't see the point. It is also illegal to do so. I have found other users that have done and I have reported them for it. It is cheating. Just not worth it and a waste of time both for those who do it and those who have to clean up after them. Happy Lotting!

Thanks for such a rapid response, and I must say that I totally agree with you on this point. I also have seen posts that are not just similar but exactly like other posts I have seen on other forum sites and this is what prompted me to ask this question. You would think that if someone was going to copy another post from elsewhere they would at least re-word it or put the question in a different way. I struggle some days thinking of discussions to start so instead spend my time answering others, then normally out of the blue, I will suddenly have quite a few come into my head, and then I am worried about starting too many. I have never done so and never intended to do something which I consder as unethical. I woukd rather not have any discussion than going against my principles. I have not actually seen pinched discussions but I have seen repeated discussions by the same person. Even in myLot there are copy cats and members who I believe take the point(s) from a response to a discussion and reposted the point(s) as a new discussion. I saw a pattern which initially I did not pay attention to. On the other hand my observations may be flawed. all the best, rosdimy

Thanks rosdimy for your reply, like you I also think it is unethical and not a nice thing to do. I haven't really took any notice of 'Copy Cats' here on MyLot, although now that you have said that I do sometimes see very similar discussions that has made me wonder. I know it is hard on here, with so many discussions going on, to think of something original to start a discussion, and occasionally people can start a discussion not realising that some one has recently started one, but to copy anothers on purpose just isn't right. No , i never did that, Actually what i know and what i know from day to day, i must share with all of you.If i win in my life some thing, then i will surely share with you.If i have a question, then i can ask to all my mylot friends with out any hesitation. If any one do that, its really not.But some times, when i have any problem in my life or in my computer or any thing else, then i started a discussion in mylot. If i dont get the solution, then i search it at yahoo answer. Is this is wrong??

Thanks skyblue for taking the time to reply to my discussion. I don't see any harm in asking a question here on MyLot or if something good or bad happens to share that here with your friends as that is what makes site so good is that because of the large amount of members it has, you normally will always find someone who will be able to help you and advise you. I would say yes, I would probably use some of my discussions here that I've had on other forums as well - but that would be my discussions, not some body elses - or it might be so that some discussions will make me start a own discussion here - on the same topic, but it wouldn't be their discussion, but mine - with my own words and what I would have to say.

Thanks mammamuh for your reply, if the work is your own work then I presume that is okay, I don't see a problem with that as it is your own work, it is when people deliberately pinch other peoples ideas and discussions that I think is wrong. Happy MyLotting

I can't say I have done that although I have come across similar discussions in other places, not word for word or anything like that, but it's bound to happen I guess. I would not feel comfortable at all stealing someone else's discussions and I don't think I would get away with it for too long if I did! It would away take a lot of the fun I think if you were to just copy and paste someone else's idea; very dishonest.

Thanks paula, yes with some many similar sites springing up its inevitable that similar discussions will arise, and that is okay, its the blatant copy and paste of someones idea that is in my eyes totally wrong.

i don't wanna be called copycat! lol and there are a lot of things that one could talk about, it's just plain useless to just ride on what other people thought is a good discussion.

I know, it seems daft to me, but just had to ask it, although I can't imagine anyone saying yes, can you ? Just because a discussion Topic works in one forum, doesn't mean it will work in here. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Happy Mylotting

Not the exact discussion, but many times a discussion one place will lead to a similar topic, or one that pertains to that discussion, but isn't the same. Like msdian and mykle have pointed out it's illegal and there's no point in doing it.

Thanks for replying, I would be surprised if anyone did own up to it, although I have no doubt that people do it, although I don't know why as it doesn't really matter if you don't start the discussions as answering them is just as important to make this site work. Happy MyLotting
