There are some breeds ,especially the Dobermans ,where their tail is cut when they are young ,yes ,most of them say that its for the cosmetic purpose ,but i have heard wierd stories .So have you also heard weird stories as to why those poor tails are chopped of from them ?

I have never understood why some people do that to dogs I had a pit bull and everyone said that i should get her ears and tail cropped everyone that dared to tell me that got an earful from me its mutilation! why on earth do people do this to their animals? I was sickened when I adopted my newest dog and noticed that the previous owner had her dew claws removed GRRRRRRRR

I had a dog who ripped out her de-claw when she was home alone by getting it caught on something. She lost a dangerous amount of blood before someone came home & found her. As painful as it is, and I've sat with my pups while they're done, I'll always remove declaws.

so just because that happened ONE time to ONE dog you plan to mutilate EVERY dog that you ever own? that is just cruel!

I have a dobermann and it has its tail chopped lol. We got him when he was a puppy and his owner had already done it. I don't know why they do this, but they say a dobermann's tail looks really fugly and it also impedes its running speed. I have no idea if this is true. His ears are not cropped though and I love his ears. They are cute. I think some of them get the ears cropped cos they look ferocious. Have a nice day!

infact a tail ,gives more traction and helps in better running ,then why chop it ?

it's cosmetic, and cruel. it makes me so sad to see a dog desparately wagging it's whole back end, as it's body language and communication is hampered by this procedure. and seeing dogs that are often docked with lovely long happy tails makes me happy

Dobermans & many breeds that were developed for personal protection had their ears & tails docked as a way of eliminating areas that they can be grabbed from. There really isn't any reason pet dobermans need to be docked, but some owners prefer them to be.

I do not understand why people would want to do that to dogs. They look so much better with full tails. Here in the UK it is illegal for breeders to dock dog tails and dog with docked tails are not allowed to be shown. But I feel the law does not go far enough as some working dogs are exempt from this. I have a border collie and could not imagine him without his tail.

It's all about looks , and i agree it's not right! I would love to see it stop. With the dew claws removed . I wouldn't remove them because dogs seem to use them as thumbs . Do you ever see a dog hold a bone or something in its paws ? I've seen them use the dew claw to grasp things , maybe I'm wrong . Another thing I don't understand with some German Shepherd owners is taping the ears . I've seen pictures of this. The puppy has his ears taped up to make his ears stand a certain way . What the heck? German Shepherds ears naturally stand up on their own. Our little Graci the dog in my photo was a late bloomer , and she was the puppy that nobody wanted because her ears didnt stand up straight .

the dogs are many that tails sre doct. and for many reasons. Take the larger breeds for instanse, Mastiffs, Bull Mastiffs, Amer. Bulldogs, Bouviers, Rottweilers etc. the tails on these dogs are so long and thick that nothing in the house would be safe from being swept or knocked down. Beside that all kennel clubs call for a doct tail on these animals. Another reason in the working dog class the tail would be a hinderanse in protecting the flock or herd of animals that they r protecting etc..In the hunting breeds the tails on Cocker Spaniels, Springer Spaniels, Weimerainers, poodles etc make a noise in the feilds scaring the hunted animals, birds etc... there r many other dog breeds not mentioned with many other reasons...The tails r usually done at 3 days old to 6 weeks , the younger the better, check with your vet...Luv your dog, they will always luv u...
