I don't find any difference between packet mixture and the one you prepare at home as dough. It gets messy when I prepare my own dough for dosa at home,so I prefer to buy it from shop.I can used the batter for both idly and dosa.

I am familiar with most Indian dishes since I am an Indian. South Indian dishes are one of my favourite dishes. I especially like Idli, Vada, and Dosa. I especially like the masala dosa as it has been my fav for many years. The dosas made here in Northern India vary in taste from place to place and they never taste as good as the ones made at home. The main reason being that in restaurants they use rice paste where as they should be using a mixture of Rice and Urad paste. Dosas are one of the best dishes and the most filling. This dish is relatively easy to make.

I love dosas and utthapams, idlis and medu wadas too. I also love upma and the filter coffee served in stainless steel bowls. In Matunga, Mumbai where i live there are many Udipi restaurants so once in a while i order a dosa or upma or utthapam which is home delivered hot to my house. In my childhood dosas and utthapams used to cost 75 paise and idli/meduwada 50 paise. Today they have become prohibitively costly. I like masala dosa, paper dosa, rava masala, mysore rava masala dosas, onion utthapams, capsicum utthapam too. You have made my mouth to water , Chaitra Amma!! How naughty of you!

Recipe : Soak urd dal and rice in the water proportion 1:4 say for 2-3 hours. grind it to paste should be neither too thick nor too thin. Add some salt to it and keep it in a closed vesel. The next day morning it will be ready to cook. heat a pan then spread the paste in a circular manner and add a tea spoon of cooking oil around and on the paste you have spread on the pan. once the color of the spread paste start to turn golden brown remove it from the pan. Serve it with some curry or chutney it will be very good to taste. happy myloting.

Hi friend,I am a south Indian and a home maker.I can make all kinds of dosas. We have only dosas for our breakfast most of the days.We make different varieties of chutneys for dosas and only the taste of chutneys and sambar makes the taste of dosas very delicious. As you said it is not very easy to make dosas,as batter to make idlies and dosas should have the right proportion of rice and dal so that we get crispy and thin dosas.thanks for sharing.happy mylotting.

Dosa is one of my favorite south Indian dishes apart from idli and wada. Though a north Indian by family ancestry, I was born in Chennai, so I'm south Indian to a certain extent. The only thing is that I prefer plain dosa over masala dosa. The potatoes in the masala dosa spoil the taste. Rava dosa is also nice.

Hai chaitra!I am a great lover of Dosais.Oh!How many varieties we have!Uthappams, onion uthappams, ghee roast, onion roast, kal dosai, home made ordinary dosai,etc,..etc..Chutnies and sambars that match dosais are great delight. You know, the size of Dosais are meant different in different places. In Coimbatore they call Special dosais as roast.Used to that, once in Madurai,I ordered roast and the server came with a huge roast that resembles half of the family dosai at V.G.P.Golden beach at Chennai.I had a hard time to eat all that Dosai.Cheers!
