What Anti-Virus program should I use?

Well my free Norton Anti-virus trial subscription just ran out, and it's awfully expensive to buy. So I'm wondering, is it worth it to pay to renew my subscription, or are there other Anti-Virus programs out there that would be a better use of my money? And are there any free Anti-Virus programs out there that actually work? Any help would be appreciated.

Try Malwarebytes' Anti-malware. It is good. Paretologic's Xoftspy is also good and efficient in detecting malware. The only thing about XoftSpy is that you need a license key in order for you to remove the Trojans and other malicious software that it found on your computer. Unlike with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, it can really eliminate threats even those files that are difficult to delete. Bitdefender is also a good safekeeping tool. AVG is good but Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is much better than it.

I've never heard of Malwarebytes' before, I will have to look into that. Right now I have AVG on the recommendations of others, but it seems to slow down my computer considerably.

many free anti virus products offer good enough protection , some include avira, comodo, avg. ofcourse the one you buy like symantec , mcafee are much better than the free ones and they dont cost a lot, one should always buy one

Well, the problem is I'm really short on money right now; to the point where the cost of one of those programs could affect how much I eat this week. I really need a good free program right now, until I can afford to pay for one in a month or two.

Thanks for the links, free is very good for me right now. They seem to be trial versions, but that's fine for me because I only need it to be free for a couple months.

Hi Just as 23Uday says AVG is the best bet among the free security software. To be doubly sure about your computer protection I would advice you to run Online scans from either of these websites. Do this atleast every fortnight. www.safety.live.com or http://housecall.trendmicro.com(Run Scans using IE) Chose browser plugin scans.
