You could always check the cpu and refer to the internet for the proper number of bits that it can load in the registers. As a rule of thumb, the later the cpu, the bigger would be the number of bits, for instance, the athlon has 64 bits and so does the dual core pentium. Cheers!!

How can I check my cpu? Where can I look for it? I have an amd 64 x2 processor. What do you think? Is it a 32 or 64 type?

amd 64x2 means that you have an athlon 64-bit dual processor cpu. 64 stands for 64-bits and x2 stands for 2 processors or dual processor. It is now common to have multiple processors on one cpu which is basically like having multiple engines on your car. If I could afford it I would go for at least a quad-core cpu and even better would be an 8-core cpu. I have read discussions of 64-core cpu which would really be awesome. However, the problem might be the operating system which could utilize the multiple processors running simultaneously. Cheers!!
