Orkut was programmed by a Turkish engineer Orkut. It was primarily intended to be for the US citizen. Then came the major halt and Brazilian people got addicted of Orkutting. Since then, despite the association of google it can not get its foot firm in the US market and swallowed by facebook. It is said that since it became too much popular in Brazil and then India, the US people did not used it. How much you agree with this assertion?

I just love orkut and just none besides it.its simple and efficient. i met many of my lost friends out here in orkut, and i really just don't see the point that why the U.S people don't use as Brazilians and Indians use it.

I don't know about US people liking it because we Indian like it but if it is true then this can only be called as small thinking. We are coming to facebook too and at mylot also we are at number 2. So, what next in future, will they quit these two sites too! I don't think so!

I'm just now becoming a facebook junkie. It's allowed me to get reacquainted with people I haven't talked to in years.

For a wasted teen starting over his social interneedhood . Everything is fascinating . There used to be a time when i joined everywhere . But such time and low self esteem doesn't stay for a long time . I don't like facebook much . Its too flashy and doesn't give me what i want , which is communities , forumhood , en stuff . Orkut's got it simple . Light site with good knowledgeable fanbase . When you love some one's view in a forum , it doesn't have the " PM " this user and just the user's location and hobby in his/her profile , which is also very good . You get to meet the gods of debates in real life as i did . I don't enjoy social networking anymore anyway . Twitter is very good . Simple again . Facebook is alright . Orkut is the real deal .

I don't like either site although I am a member of both. I just don't see the attraction of the sites, but I would agree with what you say.

i don't see how Orkut being popular in india and Brazil should lead the US people to not use it. but i have noticed that most Orkut users are from Brazil and from India or Pakistan. i myself signed up Orkut about 5 years ago but now i don't use it anymore as i have switched to Facebook and i use it occasionally as well because i am not mad about online social networks. i find Facebook's features and layout more attractive than Orkut.

since the creation of facebook, i think no one is interested in any other social networking website other than it. Facebook is becoming more popular everyday in every country of the world and the other similar sites are loosing popularity fast

I agree, Orkut is NOT popular at all in the U.S.! I just recently heard of it because of myLot. Here, Myspace and Facebook are HUGE, and Twitter is just starting to get popular, but Orkut isn't really on the map yet for us.

I personally never checked out Orkut until just now to see what it is. I used to be a facebook addict, but I have recently deactivated my account and flagged it for deletion so it will be completely wiped in 12 days. I am finding social networking sites so overrated these days.
