I faced the same problem in ubuntu for internet. After discussions i finally configured it.i must recommend you to follow these steps:- 1)open the terminal. 2)type : sudo pppoeconf. 3)if u dont have the pacakage ,get it pppoeconf.deb from ubuntu repository. 4)A wizard-like interface will come up and ask you several questions. 5)give your username and password that u use to login. 6)enable boot time startup. 7)it will ask to save changes in resolv.conf file then say yes. 8)restart pc. 9)i hope it will work now.

This is just a tip, open mozilla firefox from ubuntu, then in the address bar, type in your modem ip address like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.254.254 etc... then, there you can put your username and password that your ISP provided you... hope it helps... You can also post other concerns regarding computer troubleshooting, there are many kind people here in myLot that are ready to help.... Happy mylotting!!!
