just heard on the news that the formula 1 champion in 2009 will be decided not by points but by how many wins the driver gets. What do you think ? I personally think this will make for more exciting racing with people trying to win at all costs, the type of driving that lewis hamilton does, but I also think for the drivers of the lesser teams it will have a negative effect.

i only caught a bit of this of the news, so what happens if say Lewis hamilton finishes every race in 2nd place. But Jenson Button wins 4 races and crashes out in every other race? as Button has more wins does he take the title? If thats the case being number 1 is gonna mean everything and i think we will see alot more desperate overtaking moves as people battle hard for 1st place

yeah there is no point in finishing 2nd, lets say lewis or massa or anyone spins off half way thru a race and in the last season they used to battle to get back into the points even tho they had no chance of winning, with the new rules they may aswell turn the engine off and save the engine for the next race. Or lets say button finishes 1st in 2 races and doesnt finish any other races but hamilton finishes 2nd in all the races as does massa etc etc then button is champion doesnt seem right to me

Only time will tell if its gonna make it more intresting, jhave you seen the think about letting teams use the kenetic energy boost? And extra 80 Hp for 7 - 8 seconds every lap! Now that could prove intresting!

interesting not heard about the 7-8 secs a lap thingy, but this new rule could either ruin F1 or make it exciting tho I do honestly think if you are not going to win the race you may aswell turn ya engine off and save it for the next race.

I think this would have a negative impact to the later part of the race (especially the Singapore, China and Brazil Legs). This would lessen the excitement of the viewers since they can easliy predict who would win the entire F1 season. But from what I heard, this new rule will no longer be implemented.

Just checked the f1 site and its still being discussed. from what I can see if the teams dont want it the FIA is going to defer the changes till 2010. So its still up in the air www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2009/3/9036.html

This new rule may have something to do to keep the interests of the fans to continuously watch the race. This financial crisis seems affected the entire formula 1. I have also heard from a news in CNN or BBC i think that Honda is selling their rights for the car to cut their costs. Let's just hope for the best any way.

This will make it more exciting if drivers are winning equal races. Then it will go to the points to declare the champion. If a single driver wins almost all of the races in the first half of the season then it will not so exciting to see who will be the champion as we all would be know half way itself but it will definitely be interesting and exciting to see who will be the constructors champion.

but are people really interested in the constructors championship I know to be honest I dont care one way or the other. All I am interested in is the driver championship.

was great seeing new teams in there plus the ferrari's were no where to be seen lol which is a defiant bonus, tho formula 1 likes to shoot itself in the foot with the rear diffuser rulings etc etc and brawn gp might yet be demoted. Also theres been no talk of the champion being the one who wins the most gp's is that still in place for 2009.

i do think there would be some interesting twists and turns on this new season. By the way the new season starts this Saturday 1:30pm. Are you vying for any team or racer? Let's just hope it would be a good new rule.

well hamilton is defo a breathe of fresh air as massa and kimi seem to not want to take chances where as hamilton is a proper racer and just wants past everybody.

I think it will make the race more exciting, and full of uncertainties. The qualifying will be crucial, and every driver will spare no effort to fight for the champion, while they will avoid any crash or accident as possible as he can. Last year, it seemed like the competition just among Ferrari, Mc-Laren and BMW, other small teams were just like the playmater. And this year, every team announces that they have a good racing car, especially Brown's team is a dark horse. So I am very expected on Formula 1 2009.

I do agree that qualifying will be more important than ever but I think this rule change will back fire, as if theres no chance of someone winning the race lets say massa is in 15th after a spin he may aswell park up switch his engine off and save it for the next race if its only number of wins that count and not points. This surely cant be good for F1, if this happens in a race.

I think this would have a negative effect on the later part of the series (especially the Singapore, China and Brazil Leg). Excitement on the part of the audience would lessen since, more or less, they now have an idea as to who would win the entire F1 season. But I just heard that this new rule would no longer be implemented right?
