May be the reason is they are rich.

i think this may not be the reason. when people get rich, they tend to care more about their health, and are able to afford better treatment to get fit again.

Maybe you are right, but I think there is another reason for this, Maybe they failed to do this. I am fat, I always told myself I have to lose weight, but I can't success. Happy mylotting! Thanks for you disagree with me!

Well,i think it have a relationship about their diet.Americans always so busy,so they must eat fast food, the calorie is too high.

Well, maybe it's because of the way they live. Also, maybe it's because of their society and lifestyle. I think it's not only the Americans who are suffering obesity. I guess it's a world wide problem and we have to do something about it.

I think it in the food they eat there. I have some relatives that have migrated in there and their kids just grew up really big then when they were living here. You can even saw it in the food they serve is really big.

Where are you from? Since you say 'why are americans so fat' it leads me to believe that you are not from America. One factor is that America is truly a rich nation, rich in resources and food. We also have tons and tons of restaurants, processed items, and so much technology which prevents people from needing to do any actual work to live day to day. People who can sit practically 24/7 and order burgers and fries 24 hours a day have a much bigger chance of becoming obese. Our society enables this, and our lifestyles enable this. I think it is getting worse as we are increasingly dependent on technology including computers and the internet, gaming platforms and hdtvs, budget cuts are taking away things like physical education and sports programs, so people are sitting sitting sitting and not moving like we used to do. The economic crunch is causing people to give up gym memberships and working out with trainers, and because it costs MORE to buy fresh produce and lean meats and unprocessed foods and cook at home, many people become regulars at the fast food dollar menu drive thru or pick up things like ramen and spaghettios, hot dogs, cookies, etc. Portion sizes have been creeping up steadily in the last 40-50 years, although I have been hearing about PACKAGE sizes diminishing while the prices stay the same. Nobody blinks at the idea of having 32 oz of soda, but if you were given a 6 or 8 oz can, you'd probably grab a second one because it looks 'child size'.

You're right. I also noticed that when I went to US. Their fastfood meal portions are large. In the philippines, 2-3 people can consume 1 meal.

Yes you might be on to something if you are talking about Florida. According to Men's Fitness magazine's 2009 fattest cities study...Miami, FL was number one. Another big city Jacksonville, FL was number 10. I think the thick waist lines can be blamed on fast food consumption and processed/junk food intake. The US is number 9 on Forbes.com list of worlds fattest countries. Not good when you look at the other countries above it, the US is the 1st developed nation on the list. I hope people start taking their health more seriously, after all...you are what you eat.
