How do you recognize spring has sprung?

Canada

Hi everyone..well this friday is officially the first day of spring here in canada. Ofcourse they are calling for snow on monday.. I have noticed that while going out during the days, the sun has gotton stronger. It will be nice to see all the frozen chunks of dirty ice gone! I am eagerly awaiting my first real sign of spring!..I have been watching the lamp posts and street signs every weekend. For me, the first sign of spring is a sign that says..."Yard Sale".... HOw about you? What screams spring to you and has it sprung in your area yet?

I'm also from Canada and I'm sure you'll agree that the 20th of March means absolutely diddly squat in relation to spring! To me the first sign of spring having sprung is seeing the tulips poke out in our front flower bed. Even if the poor little things have to struggle through a layer of snow I consider it to be the real start of spring.

When I first came on mylot, I couldnt find many canadians..I think they were all busy digging out from under the snow!.. NOw we have 3 in this discussion so far!..And your right, march means its still really winter here, with maybe a little more sun. I think the first day of spring here should be moved to late april!!

I am in Canada as well, and the other day when I was walking with my children, I noticed one tree that had a couple of buds starting, which for me means spring. Also when my basement floods that means spring, and when I dont have to shovel anymore it also means spring ;) !

Hi Krissta..I love your answer about when the basement floods..How true that is for some of us!..I heard weather your way is supposed to be real mild for a day or so... We have been sunny here in nova scotia but calling for snow again on monday Just when we hope the shovelling is over!!

The Daffodils have sprung up in our garden and that to us says spring is here. They have been there since we moved into out house and they never fail to bloom every year without fail. We have also had a few sunny nice days which makes all the difference after all the cold weather we have had. Now if only we could motivate ourselves for all that cleaning

AWWWW.so nice to see those spring flowers. I remember I used to get so excited to see the first little green sprouts peaking above the ground. Our daffodils are not out yet, maybe in another few weeks!

Yes it is always nice to see them bloom. Us here not being very good gardeners, it always excites us to see them come up every year.
