look for the memory and ask about the mother board. Some new and cheap brands are okay. The screen size depends on your choice.I suggest Asus. It has good specs, cheaper but the quality is good.

Is the hardisk size of the laptop is not a key factor of it. because of me the processor is the key factor in buying a laptop. i don't know what brand is to be selected in laptop. Anyways thanks for your answer it contribute a lot.

One of the main factors for me when I bought mine was keyboard size. I only have a laptop and I have to type many papers on it and so I bought a 17 inch one. Not only does it have a wider keyboard but it also has the number pad that I use so much. Another factor for me was memory, the more the better

is the processor speed or the hardisk speed are not factor to you? By the way if one factor for you is the RAM? then you would like to buy a dual core with 4GB RAM than a core 2 duo with 3GB RAM?

What will you use it for ? by the way I do NOT recommend Vista until you have to work with a program that recommends Vista. Vista eats half of the memory usage.

I used to sell laptops (among other things in an office supply store) for a living. The things I would look for are brand, speed, memory, hard drive size, dvd burner, battery life, and screen size. 1.Brand: this can change once in a while because sometimes a certain brand name will goof up (we had problems for a while with Toshiba's over-heating and being returned. They fixed that later, but for a while Toshiba's were not recommended by us. Now I would not have a problem. Currently, all things being equal, I'd pick a Sony or an Apple). 2.Speed: this changes all the time and can be confusing. Faster is better, but costs more. I'd also pick AMD over Intel for price vs. speed. 3.Memory: right now, at least 2 gigabytes or more (especially if you get Windows Vista on that laptop.) 4.Hard drive: whatever sounds good to you, more is better, but usually not needed. 5.DVD burner: this is definetly something to get if possible! 6.Battery life: as for an estimate or compare how high that batteries maH are. 7.Screen size: personal choice, I would get a nice wide screen (16:9 ratio) if it was me for playing movies. If not, just go by screen size by inches (17 at least, I'd say). Hope this helped! (and wasn't too late)
