Chicken Pot Pie

I don't normally buy the frozen chicken pot pies. I normally make my own, but since I have not been in much of a cooking mood lately I got a few of those Banquet Pot Pies. They are ok, but nothing like homemade and they take forever to cook in the oven. I know they have microwave directions now, but I think they taste better cooked in the oven. Do you ever buy frozen pot pies? Do you have a favorite brand? Have you ever microwaved them instead of putting them in the oven?

i usually make my own to but once when i had just gotten out of the hospital my son grocery shopped for us & he bought marie callendar's pot pies. they were really the best i had ever tasted other than homemade. her other things are really good to but more expensive that banquet but they are worth the difference.

I will have to try a Marie Callendar's one sometime. I really prefer homemade, but if I want one and don't want to cook I want it to be a good one.

Yes the taste of Marie Callendars is the best. However be careful! Check the nutrition label. I think one pot pie has around 60 grams of fat! You could eat a fast food meal at McD's with a lot less fat than this...including fries!

I haven't tried any of those yet. I haven't even tasted one to be honest. Because I'm here in manila, I don't have the luxury of preparing nor tasting a chicken pot pie. Is it the same as it sounds? A pie made of chicken cooked in a pot? Please enlighten me..

once in a while i buy them, though i prefer homemade also. there's a local brand that's pretty good,but..it's so hard to find one with 2 crusts!usually it just has one.. i have micro'd the banquet ones before but they are so much better in the oven. micro's kind of..um..squishy?

The crust just never seems to get done right in the microwave.

Several people have mentioned Marie Callender's. I am going to have to make it a point to get one and try it out.

I don't hardly buy chicken pot pies, but my grandma used to eat them all the time. I know what you mean about them taking a long time to cook in the oven. Have you tried Swanson pot pies? They come in a blue package, and they are microwaveable, and they taste pretty good, those are the ones my grandma used to buy, and don't take long to cook. You can find them wherever you find the other pot pies, they're good.

The Banquet ones say they are microwavable now too, but I don't think they taste quite as good coming out of the microwave.

I like the Banquet Pot Pies for when I want a simple meal and don't feel like cooking. I always cook more vegetables to add to them tho because they don't have much in them, mostly gravy. They used to be better with more vegetables but now they don't put much in them. I always cook mine in the oven even if they can be microwaved. I like the tops of them good and brown.

I noticed that with the one I ate last night now that you mention it. There were not very many veggies in them at all.

i like to eat homemade chicken pot pie but seldom have time to make my own, so i tend to buy frozen ones because they are more time efficient. i work til 1:00pm and by the time i get home, its almost 2 and i am usually starving by the time i get home and dont want to take time to make much lunch.

I do buy the banquet brand as I am here by myself and it's a nice treat....not as good as homemade but once in a while they are good. I try to bake something else when I do them as I prefer them in the oven too....the crust get a little nicer when you bake them.

Of course homemade pot pie is better than frozen, but homemade anything is always better. I buy the Banquet Pot Pies because they are the least expensive. My husband and I will sometimes take them to work for lunch. Of course they have to be heated in the microwave, but they do turn out pretty good that way. Did you know that Banquet now has a chicken and broccoli pot pie? It's good and different from the normal peas and carrots.

My hubby has bought those. I have never been a fan. Anyway, my hubby has nuked them. He thinks they are ok in a pinch.

I think pot pies is something I had too much of as a kid. They're a cheap, easy dinner, which is what my mother went for. As an adult I've had them once, and honestly just can't force myself to eat them! Just the thought of them makes me gag!

I really do not like pot pies, I like the crust part the best. I did buy frozen pot pies for my husband once. I can't remember whether I microwaved them or put them in the oven. Usually frozen foods are better when heated in the oven as opposed to in the microwave. Yeah, I know when you are in a hurry to eat it seems like it takes such a long time to heat up in the oven.

I like the crust the best too. There is never enough of it in my opinion.

I personally do not like chicken pot pies, but my family loves them! Because of this, my parents buy frozen ones whenever they are on sale! (The key word being on sale, so the brand differs). My mom has microwaved one, when she did not have a lot of time, and it came out just as good as it does in the oven, which was very suprising!

My microwave is a piece of junk, so it might make a difference in how mine come out.

I don't buy them often enough to have a favorite. My brother used to get the Swanson ones all the time. My mom always bought the banquet ones, so that is what I always grab.

I think when we start making homemade we get spoiled with the flavor. When I was growing up, my parents bought the frozen ones, and we always baked them, I remember trying them in the microwave. They were too mushy, I like a crisp crust. Now that I'm older I make my own.
