What is your guess re the significance of the black stones in the movie Knowing?

I saw the movie Knowing... I got the reference to the Tree of Life in the end but honestly cannot figure out what the black stones were... Where they souls... or what? Do you have any ideas about what they could be symbols of?

Cool I love thrillers if they have a plot to them no 29cent one those I can do with out all the screaming lol

It seems to have a plot and has characters that people would like but... there is that ending which is scary... so much so for me that I ended up somehow squishing the contents out of a cup of cherry coke all over myself and my friend and that cup was in the drink holder... I still am trying to figure out that one and also to learn what those black stones mean.
