He's a celebrity, has wide mass appeal, has political ambition, and allegedly has extramarital affairs. Seems familiar? Any thoughts?

Um, no. I don't think he has the capacity and ability to run for public office. In my opinion, if he wants to help his fellowmen, he can do so without immersing himself in the dirty world of politics. To run the country, you need a special set of skills. Pacquiao lacks that. Besides, he's better off in the boxing ring. Why put him anywhere else?

Respectfully, I think he has the capacity and ability to run for public office, given his wealth, political backing, and mass appeal. If Eddie Gil's candidacy was initially affirmed by COMELEC, I don't see any reason why they would not do the same for Pacquiao, considering his known close ties with the powers that be. That said, running the country, if ever he decides to run and get elected, is a totally different matter. If I may ask, by the way, exactly what "special set of skills" should someone running for president have to be considered qualified to run the country, if he/she wins? Thanks!

Ha ha!!! This is a funny topic you post moonchild, thanks for that, you made my day ha ha ha!. Bet you acquired many responses by this question ha ha ha. Well, let me contribute mine... This is what I think... Yes he has a capacity to think since masses of people like him who basically understand him and are like him would possibly vote for him. What can he do for the country... Uhh... Box? Although many politicians would want him to be president I'm sure, since if ever he wins then these politicians now would have a puppet president which is very good instrument for corruption. That's just one of the many. Ha ha! This topic really made my day.

I admire as a boxer but that is all I have for him. I really would not support him any further beyond his being an excellent boxer that is. Sorry but he would not get my vote for presidency if he does have plans to run. It will totally ruin his standing in our country.

We have just witness how he makes decision for himself about his promoters and everything. It created a big fiasco of every sorts of intrigues, network wars and legal battles that loomed over his fight this May. Now try making that on the National Issues of our country. Do you think that kind of a person can be trusted to handle national decisions to be made? I suggest that he focus on what he can do best.

Don't you think, though, that such "big fiasco of every sorts" that his decision created just goes to show how truly influential he is in the lives of the Filipino people? Do you think that one decision could determine whether one would turn out to be a good leader? What if this whole hoopla is just a massive publicity stunt to further hype up his fight with Hatton, since publicity--good or bad--is still publicity? If it is, in fact, just that, don't you think that he's actually wise to come up with such a plan? Also, again, in what way will his running for presidency "totally ruin his standing in our country," rsa101? Thanks in advance for your much valued response!

Manny Pacquiao for president? We don't know but I think it is not good for him to run. Yes, he is the champion in the hearts of many Filipinos, and he united our nation for some hours during his fight. Yes, he excel in the boxing arena and he is always the champion but I don't think he has the skill to become a better president. Politics is a dirty game and I don't think he can cope up with the challenges of being a president. He can serve in other ways, and he can still be the champion in the hearts of many Filipinos.

PLEASE NO!.. i dont want him being used by other political people out there , and i dont want him to be like ERAP before... he should focus on boxing more, yes he really wants to enter the other world and its the Politics, however he should equip himself first before doing so,

You're kidding right? well anyway he has the right to run for any position because he has money and he's famous, but being a President would be too much for me, well anyway good luck on his May 2 fight with Hatton. I will not be able to vote for the 2010 election if i am still here in Mumbai. But anyway, let the people decide which is best to elect.

Do you ever know a boxer who has attained college? If your answer is no, then thats it. Manny Pacquiao doesn't even know how to converse well in English. What will ever happen if he became a president? I suppose he can't make his own decisions for the sake and benefit of the Filipinos. I told this same topic to my bf and he said "Thats insane!"

Manny is a great person and he has done a lot to earn respect for the Filipinos and the Philippines. But he does not have the know-how and the experience to enter into politics. He is very good at the field where he is in, I think it is better that he would just focus on where he is good at.

i don't think i'll vote for him when he runs for president. he can do good in other ways such as making us all happy with his consistent winnings in boxing. if he runs for public office and mess there, all the good things that he did will be gone in the eyes of his fans. he'd better stay in the ring than in the malacanang.

I'm not voting for him. I dont think he has the capacity or knowledge to be a president. Its not enough being a celebrity and political knowledge isnt acquired in just a matter of few years. Being a president should have many experiences and must start from the bottom.

Manny Pacquiao can't get everything. He must focus on overhauling the sports system in the Philippines and help train young boxers after he retired.

with he handled his contract with Solar sports, how can he even handle the affairs of the country? I don't think he would even dare to run. Nice thoughts though ;)

Hey there! President of "Dajong" will be better for him.lol He doesn't have the capacity to lead this country. Compasion and pity is not enough to move this country forward. It is will to push thru, experience, honesty, good governance, and fear of the lord. Although Manny Pacquiao has fear of the Lord he still lack the other traits that a president should have. Have a nice day. Happy posting!!

If this is supposed to allude to the Estrada administration, then no thank you. I think we're a nation of starstruck people and it's a shame because there are some brilliant minds in this country too. I still have high hopes for the Philippines and I wish someday we will be a better country.

It's a strange trend worldwide that so many actors, celebrities, etc. want to become politicians... and some are actually getting elected. I hope it's not a growing trend. Just because someone is well known doesn't mean they are well known doesn't mean they know anything about how to be public servants.

Oh please no. We already have a lot of presidentiables, and now he's going to add to the list, it's going to be a circus! I don't think he'll fare well as a politician because he has no knowledge about politics. I just hope that the masses won't be swayed with his popularity and wealth. But anyway, even without Pacquiao running, we still have far to go for a better government.

i will definitely say no. he has the popularity being a great boxer. but he has no appeal masses when it comes to politics. the people who are advising him to run i think dont really believe that he will win. they know the "pulse" of the people and that is pacquiao is not for politics. why do you think they still do that? in the philippines we call it "consuelo de bobo". if manny really want to help the filipino people, he can just keep donating his money to good cause. that way, his riches will really fall on the rightful and needy people. politics??? no!!!!
