Ok so where do wedding cakes come from? I really wanna know. Where did it all begin? I have also heard of different rituals being performed with cakes. Does anyone have any weird tales to tell or where these icons come from?Livy J

Livy- I can't say any better than the following article: http://www.hudsonvalleyweddings.com/guide/cakehistory.htm I don't have any "weird" tales, but as a Pagan I use cakes quite a bit in ritual. I suppose the only weird tale I have is that there is some debate in certain rituals if bodily fluids are truly needed or just to be symbolic. Namaste-Anora

That was an awesome link to show me! Thank you so much for posting that and answering my somewhat ridiculous question. I learned a lot from it. Pagans? I would love to learn what rituals you use cakes in. I am always curious about different religions and beliefs ways of thinking and practicing. Please feel free to share. Livy J

Livy- Not a problem. I use cakes in various rituals I do, more a long the lines of ceremonial. It would be a good question to filter through the Pagan Interest or Witchcraft Interest. Namaste-Anora

Thanks for the BR. Feel free to add me as a friend and I'll answer any more questions you have, or try to. Did you check out the Paganism interest? I've noticed some really good informative threads over there. Namaste-Anora

I haven't gone to the link Anora provided, but I would guess that cake is a symbol of fertility for the married couple, but it would be interesting to know how the traditional tiered shape developed, as well as the tradition of saving the top tier for the first anniversary (we did that, and it was delicious!)
