I seldom use mosquito repellent for myself but I often use it on to my daughter's skin to protect her from Dengue-carrying mosquitoes. The mosquito bites are sort of scary as it might cause that deadly Dengue. Now that it's summer here, I don't use much of it as there few mosquitoes. I would rather spend on mosquito repellent than be biten by Dengue-carrying mosquitoes. I use Off Lotion for Kids. Do you think using mosquito repellents are dangerous to one's health?

Mosquito Repellent ! - serious health hazards are observed with Mosq.Repl.usgae.
Hi, Recent surveys conducted in North & South India revealed that all Mosq.Repellents are containing chemical compounds of DEET.Results shown across age/s*x the users suffered breathing problems, eye irritations, skin reactions and headache etc.Continous usage may give rise to neurological problems even.DEET cream mosq repellants cause skin toxicity. So,alternatives are:- #Use mosquito nets. #use Herbal/neem oil based repellants/Natural products. #5% Neem oil+95%Mustard oil combinationmay be safer alternative. =Lahiri,Kolkata,India.

I think they are not good for our health either. However, we use it because we have limited options to get rid of deadly mosquitoes. You can take the advice of your Doctor to know whether it will be advisable to use the same for kids. I personally feel that lotions are the better options and it gives you more protection.

My daughter's pediatrician said that it's okey the use mosquito repellent for as long as we use something mild. We are using the Off Lotion for kids.

If they contain deet make sure you follow the directions. This is the most effective repellent. I think if it's directions are followed your children will not be harmed.

I have heard that the ones that contain Deet are harmful but I do use repellent. I usually use the skin so soft lotion from Avon. It repels. I do use Deep Woods Off too. It's strong but in the summer there are a lot of mosquitos here.

Do you have access to Avon products? See if you can go to www.avon.com and order from their website. They have a product called Skin so soft Bug Guard plus that comes in a spray pump bottle that is amazing for repelling deadly mosquitoes. It is about Seven dollars for a bottle, but is made from the same ingredients that they make their bath oils with so you don't have all the harsh chemicals other products have!

Yes any kind of chemicals are bad especially those that have DEET in them. I use avon skin so soft because it is the most natural insect repellent that I can find. I dont know what kind your using but maybe you should look for natural ways to repel mosquitos.

Are mosquito repellents dangerous to one's health? Yes, but only if you ingest them. ;-) Truthfully, they are all tested for safety, so I doubt you'll have anything to worry about. Although, some of them I understand, have been known to cause allergic reactions in some. I guess it all depends on which one is right for you. One thing...NEVER use extremely poisonous ones. Sure, they'll kill mosquitoes alright, but you're better off buying the one ones that are hypo-allergenic, just to be on the safe side. cdrxo
