8:30PM local time, wherever you live on planet earth. Saturday 28 March 2009 This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming. All you need to do it to switch off your power for 1 hour and VOTE for earth. What do you think about this? Do you think the media houses, multiplexes and corporate houses will do it? Do you really think this is will help?

I HOPE THE 08:30PM IS AT GMT+8 Thanks for the great shares and I hope the referred time base on +8GMT(Greenwich Meridian Time) because today is Saturday ~ March 28, 2009 ~ and now at my location GMT+8 is 07: 22PM. I believe that in the next one hour I am able to do it. It helps or not, my self-believe is it does help. A little always next to enough just like a cent to a million. Without one cent it won't be a million. That's all way I can say about it, and it is my personal opinion anyway. An ant when already stayed in an elephant's ear can kills. I am very glad responding to your green campaign for today, yesterday I am in grateful participate in "Stop-Seal-Hunt". Cheers! mimpi1911. Signed a petition titled "Stop the Seal Hunt - 280,000 Signatures Needed" and thought you might want to sign it! I really appreciate this Gadhisunu! That's the way it should be. And we can always do without non-essential lights. Here we celebrate forced earth hour every day!

I did switch off our lights and every equipment by switching off the main breaker in my house. Luckily there are no emergency services like medical aid to sick people which need be kept ON. So, I could do my thousand-billionth to this cause. That gives me a lot of satisfaction. May be it is useful. May be it is not useful as people did not really join in sufficient numbers. My wife is a Clinical Psychologist, practicing from home based clinic. Her session was in progress. I had already informed of my decision to join in. She had also cooperated. More than the patients who had come aslo left concluding a session right before the time. They were also informed of the decision. Being not only educated but also responsive and sensible they appreciated our dedication to the cause. I hope the whole of Bnagalore joined in.I could not take a look as the whole time I was in meditation.

I certainly intend to Mimpi. The fact that i am out every Saturday at that time to pick up my Dad makes this task a lot easier for me. In any case, even if i was at home i would do it. It's about coming together and expessing soildarity for a cause that i believe in. No point in just being vocal about it. In reality how many will come out in support is a question indeed. A saturday night , people out in entertainment, will they really support it ? I have my doubts and in a few hours we will know for sure. It's what happens after this and how this event is used to transform people's thinking which will be important i feel. If it's going to become just another annual event, then i do not see much of change.

That I fear aswell. But as long as they are doing it even without any concern just for peer pressure and to show off its ok. The power will be conserved in the process, isn't it? The awareness is hard to develop through this though. And lucky you, you will get to enjoy the drive or have you decided to save some energy there as well! I would go to the terrace to figure out what's happening in the locality and how many are really concerned.

I did it, but at the same time was very dismayed by what i saaw along the way Mimpi. None of the commercial establishments on the route i took had thier lights off. 95 % of the houses had thier light on. Does it mean that the message did not get through enough or people just do not care ? And what did you observe ?

Sadly, that was the case here as well! Only a countable few observed that. I think, most did not know even. i made sure that my family do it but then i had to educate my parents. and coming to business centers people are least concerned!

Hello dear mimpi. Right now it is 19:28pm in my place. So there is still one hour before it is 8:30pm, but I don't think that it is practical for me to turn off my light in the room because I still want to stay on line for another two hours or so. But there is no problem for me to sleep earlier tonight at nine o'clock or so. I really wish to sleep earlier tonight with sweet dreams one after another. Take care, mimpi.

Hey mimpi! I had not heard anything about this! And I can tell you that I won't be switching my off my power at 8:30PM because unfortunately that is the time that I am busy doing alot of things in my home! And besides anything else, it's dark out! It is bad enough when the power goes out for real and that happens enough in the summer as it is! I am not going to purposely pull out the plugs on all my electrical equipment because it is just too difficult to turn everything back on! I am all for the Earth and global warming and stuff, but I am all for not being inconvenienced too and I know how badly that sounds and I am really sorry!

That's quite understandable. Its more about consciousness and i am sure you are right there. We can make sure to switch off the non-essential lights always and also make sure to do other stuffs like regulating the washing machine, AC and all that it takes. Here, we are into forced 3-4 hours of power off every day! So things are easier for us.

Will it will definitely save millions of watts of energy and bring down the warmth by a small fraction.I like to do that provided my daughter studying for the annual exams is not disturbed.Or else I can keep one light and a fan for her and switch off the rest of the lights.I just feel like doing something.

Haha.. that means i have to switch off my lights for one more additional hour, apart from the regular four hours of power disruption. To put in different form, we people in our town are more concerned about the global warming and are four times more conscious and having concern on the Mother Earth.

By the way, there IS a cure for 'human global warming' - get rid of all the humans. Ooops, wait a minute, we also have to get rid of any living thing that passes gas. Gosh, guess global homicide is the answer! National Health Care will solve a lot of the problem since, if it follows the European method, after a certain age, a person is deemed unworthy of curing, so our older population will die sooner. Just another gift from a Federal Government working to empower themselves and give until it hurts - literally.

If everyone really wants to make a difference, live like my brother does. He does not use central heat or air conditioning, stove (microwaves only), uses one 40 watt bulb in his whole house, watches television two hours max (since he does not have cable or the new little box, even that should disappear in June). His electric bill for his home runs $36 a month and for his business, it is $25 per month. He does not own a VCR, computer, disc player or any other electrical device. Occasionally, he uses the fireplace for heat, but uses rolled up newspapers for fuel. He may be making a difference, but I seriously doubt anyone writing on this site is doing as well as he. If you are, let me know.

I forgot all about this and I havent even seen them talking on the news about it at all around here... I dont know if we will be participating this year, we went out last year when they did it and it was easy to do....today I am expecting company and dont know what time they will leave... it wouldnt be very nice to turn out the lights on my company....LOL I think it will do something, but in the long run they should do it a couple times a year...not just one night, dont you think --now that would make a difference. I already make sure that lights are off when not in use, and I unplug things that we are not using....and I have cut back my water usage....and I recycle so I do my part with what I can in the long run!! happy mylotting.

Awareness is the main thing BRM and I really appreciate that you have been doing it so well. I think we can do it as it fits us. May be everyday or on weekly basis. And I always make sure to put off the non-essential lights and all the essential lights are CFL. I think, doing it everyday counts than just one day. Thanks.

Uh huh, well, make that I did cause the time in this part of the world is already 9.30pm..just gotta post this and then I need to turn on the lights again, cause the brightness of the screen is kinda hurting my eyes..just not used to harsh lights. I know that not all of the people and places in the world will do it but at least most of the people are still making an effort to hinder the development of global warming. Its juts inevitable and sooner or later there will be another ice age or something like that. Its the cycle of life. However, that doesnt mean that we can prolong enjoying this time of the earth's history where everything and everyone inhabits just the same earth.^_^

yes I do... by the way that time a lot of home shut down their lamp in my country and for my home at 8:00-16:00 in Indonesia time my goverment in specially my town for myblock already shut down... so that can say in one day just in 17:00 - 8:30 in local time electric "on" and for really help I don't know because in morning just company that use electric "much" and for home just a few... because they really spend or use electric in nigth... so maybe is will work if we always us electric in few or in what we need if we don't need just turn off... that must be can see the different...

I agree dianni. We get good hours of power cuts every day here as well just to cater to the electric supply. I think, doing it every day and being wise would help.
