The most important component for you is your graphics card.Your processor and RAM (no matter how high end) can never give u a good experience while playing games(Forget about even running today's games if u rely on integrated graphics).Even a cheap graphics card is far better than a high end Motherboard. No need to buy LCD monitor(buy CRT),UPS,etc. You can even compromise on a bit of RAM (u can add more RAM later).Use that money to buy a cheap gfx card. Here are some decent budget cards Geforce 8600,Geforce 9500,Ati Radoen HD 4670 (80$).

Now after four years, the prices of computers are getting cheaper and cheaper and you can get a very good laptop or computer. I am also planning to get a new computer some day if something should happen to this old laptop of mine.

you cna buy core 2 due 2.0 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 160 - 200 GB Hard disk and a CRT monitor, casing and other accessories - keyboard, mice, etc easily under 300$

to be honest the only way your going to get close is to build your own, but I think $300 is very optimistic

U.S.$300 means 15,500 Indian Rupees...See below [i]Motherboard having at-least 256MB graphics memory (if you don't wanna buy graphic card) (Rs.2500/2800) Intel Core 2 Duo @ 1.8GHz/2.2GHz (Rs. 1950/2200) 1GB/2GB RAM (Rs.750/1440) Hard Disk 80GB/160GB (Rs. 1700/1900) Optional: Graphic Card (256MB) (buy only if your motherboard doesn't have 256MB graphics memory) Optional : Monitor LCD View-sonic 17" (Rs.8400) UPS 750W/1200W (Rs. 900/1350) So, I think you can make a good PC in Rs 15,500(U.S.$300)...

That is difficult. With 300, you need to be quite a lot less fussy! Besides, this is interesting. If you don't mind, I suggest Apple. the cheapest is 500 quid. Packard Bell x9610 intel core 2 quad processor! for windows.
