I boil my hot dogs in water till they get hot. I have never heard of steamed hot dogs before. I think this is the way your thinking of doing your dogs as well.

I love steamed hot dogs. What I do is bring some water to a boil, then I add the hot dogs, cover them and turn the burner down to simmer. That should do it for you. A nice steamed hot dog, with onions and mustard is so good. I haven't had hot dogs in a long time either. Maybe I will get some the next time I visit the supermarket and steam them. My husband doesn't like his steamed, he likes his fried.

You should be able to put them in a pan with just a little bit of water and cover it up to make the water steam. It should give you just about the same effect as using an actual steamer.

I only like the beef hot dogs. I usually put just a small amount of water in a small skillet and put them over slow heat. and that seems to work better than straight up boiling them. Watch them and turn often.
