Do you get headaches when you don't drink coffee?

On nights that I work, my diet consists mostly of coffee and energy drinks. On nights that I don't work, I often drink only koolaid. Sometimes I get headaches and wonder if this is due to the lack of caffeine intake when I am not working? What do you think? Do you get headaches if you don't drink caffeine?

I would say it's the lack of caffeine. It happens to me too when I don't have soda or coffee.

They do have caffeine shots that you can drink, I forget the name of them though. No Doz is loaded with caffeine but it's bad for your heart. I personally can't use it. It makes my heart race and pound so hard that it feels like it'll burst out of my chest. I get the sweats and get really shaky and jittery. I can't drink energy drinks either. All I can have is regular soda's and coffee drinks like cappuccino and regular coffee.

I don't mess with no doz either. They do actually have caffeine mints though. They come in a little tin. I used to pop them like candy. I stopped buying them once I got up to a pack a day.

They should sell liquid caffeine. So, we could add it to our favorite drinks if we don't feel like drinking coffee on a particular day. That way we wouldn't have to deal with the headache. I guess no doz would be an alternative. I think that has caffeine in it.

Depends. My mother only drinks Dr. Pepper. Literally no water, no juice no other liquid of any kind. Just Dr. Pepper. When she doesn't have one(which is rare, but has happened) she doesn't get headaches, so I don't know what to tell you. It could be the kool-aid. What flavor is it? Studies have shown that grape flavored kool-aid has been known to cause muscle spasms. Orange flavored will give you an s.t.d(depending on what day of the week it is, Tuesday is the clap, Thursday is herpes) And cherry flavor will make you turn into a giant pitcher of kool-aid, causing you to run through walls and yelling "OH YEAH!!!" Scientists still don't know what tropical punch flavor does.

Funny stuff. But I agree with the Jonestown thing, ironically, after it happened Flavoraid finally stopped putting cyanide in the mix. (We'll probably get someone commenting saying "That's not funny man, my dad was at Jonestown"........hippies

They stopped adding the cyanide? Maybe that's why Flavoraid is so weak. You have to use 2 packs of flavoraid to get the same flavor as you do with one pack of koolaid. It all makes sense now.

It is tropical punch. That's my FAVORITE! I think I'll stick to tropical punch, seeing what grape and orange flavors will do to you. I definitely have to avoid the orange! I'm pretty sure the headaches are from lack of caffeine. I went to the store and got an energy drink. The headache went away rather quickly. It is a cherry energy drink. What do you think Cherry energy drinks cause? My husband drinks tons of dr. pepper and vanilla coke. He doesn't drink water, koolaid or anything else either. I never remember him not having a soda to know whether or not it would cause him headaches.

I drink a lot of tea in the summer. I think you're right, it is an addiction. I need to lay off the koolaid.

Hi Lee_Rites, I don't get headaches if I don't have my coffee; but I feel terribly lethargic and sleepy. I suppose coffee perks me up each day and surprisingly, it helps me sleep at night!

I noticed that too. I was thinking I was wanting to sleep because of the headaches but it is probably just another symptom of caffeine withdrawal.

I honestly don't drink a lot of coffee. I have it once or twice a week on average. Maybe more in the wintertime. I never find that I get headaches when I don't have coffee or caffeine. Then again I don't drink a lot of it. I would guess that your headaches could be from the lack of caffeine on those days. Maybe try weaning yourself off the caffeinated drinks so that you're not drinking as many on those nights and maybe on your nights off you won't get these headaches anymore? Just a thought!

I probably should cut back. I don't think tonight will be the night though. I've already had an energy drink. I have to be up for work in about two hours and I haven't even laid down yet. Seems like it will be another night of drinking coffee and probably another energy drink. Maybe I'll start tomorrow night.

I agree. I usually drink the cherry Amp from mountain dew or one of the NOS variations. I recently saw the NOS fruitpunch being sold in a can. That is my favorite.

Usually I don't. But there was one time that I did get a headache from not drinking what I was used to. It was back in 2003 and a relative of mine was in the hospital for quite a while. She was pretty bad off so my family was often in the waiting room. They had a coffee machine in there and I drank quite a lot of coffee over the timespan that she was there. When she was moved to another hospital and I was 'cut off' from all that coffee, my head hurt very much for a few days.
