Watching squirrels play

I could watch squirrels play for hours on end. I dare say that I have before on many occassions. I'm watching one in my backyard as I type this. I simple love these little animals. I claim them as my favorite animal to which I often get the reply, "they are rodents!". Well, maybe so, but I see them as industrious, hard working, enjoyers of life and I love them. Have you ever thought about why your favorite animal is your favorite? Do they have traits or qualities that you desire in yourself?

I love giraffes, horses, snakes and cats. I've been a horse crazy gal since I was small. I got into snakes as a teen - and since they eat bugs and rodents (rats and mice), they are my friend. Cats also kill bugs and rodents, but they are beautiful and soft and purr and I just love them. I never really wondered about loving giraffes and horses, but they are beautiful. Probably doesn't hurt that I grew up in the 1950's when westerns were a big deal and watched TV and movies with lots of horses in them. I love giraffes because my father brought me a stuffed giraffe back from Texas and that was my favorite stuffed animal when I was a child. Oh, and I call giraffes "trees" since childhood.

Not only that, but I've "corrupted" friends to calling them "trees" too!

I'm starting to wonder if my son is going to grow up calling Santa Clause Jingle Bells. His first Christmas he received a toy Santa that played the song Jingle Bells at the push of a button. He's 4 1/2 now and calls him Jingle Bells everytime he sees him. He may someday 'corrupt' his friends into calling him Jingle Bells. Haha

Squirrel - Squirrel frolicing about.
I could watach any animals play! It is so much fun to see them frolic about. This photo only has one squirrel though. I don't often have my camera at the opportune moments but maybe I will start hanging out in the park now that it is spring.

If you are talking about your favorite wild animal...I love racoons...and they have very sharp personalities....as in they can get nasty in a hurry....but I love to watch them play.....they are just like little kids sometimes....my sister and I went camping a long time ago and we were sleeping in a van watching them play with the toys our kids left outside...one was standing on a skateboard like he knew what he was doing.....one was playing with a beach ball..batting it around with his little paws....I think they are fun! That's why I love them...but squirrels are fun to watch too! I can see why you like them!

Hey pots! I know that my favorite animal is cats, but that doesn't stop me from loving all other animals! And like you I too love to watch squirrels playing! I don't care what anyone says about them being rodents! So what! Does that mean that we shouldn't enjoy those cuties running around and playing and having fun? I can watch them for hours! I love them! And you are right! The are smart and industrious critters! I try to feed them some bread since I don't know what else to give them because I don't have nuts for them! They seem to like the bread! People that don't like animals I think don't like themselves! What do you think?

I like all the animals that like rats. They are so cute, clever, pretty... One of my friend said that there are many squirrels in Canada where I will go to study? I suppose that I will watch these little guys for hours like you. And there are also ringtails which may search foods in rubbish. So funny, haw-haw.

I do not think I have a favorite. I can certainly see what you like about squirrels when described through your eyes. I have often enjoyed these "tree rats" too. I also like prairie dogs. We have lots of them around too, and they are just as cute as can be. They will stand up and look at you with such questions in their little eyes.

You really shouldn't be messing around with your food like this, makingpots. There are starving people in this world and this is kinda like a slap in the face for them when you act in this manner. Anyhoo, I love dolphins! They're highly intelligent, playful, sleek and majestic. I've never NOT felt happy and at peace when seeing dolphins in the ocean. If I could possess similar traits as a dolphin, I'd be very content. Having a dolphin nearby also means there's a pretty good chance that no sharks are around, so I can't fault that aspect either!

I can watch squirrels playing too. They are adorable, but I do have a lower opinion of them as they did invade my attic at my old place and that definitely was not cute at all! I do get a kick out of them when they feel threatened or aggitated and then they "bark" at me. Like I am going to be intimaded by that or something! They even would bark at my cat (at least until he caught and ate them)!

guess i don't give things like that enough thought. i like to watch the, i had a bird feeder out & i couldn't keep feed in it for the squirrels. i got a kick out of watching them but decided i couldn't afford to feed them & my dog. it can run into some big bucks for me anyway.they are busy little things & do work hard. i use to be a busy thing to. lol

It is hilarious to watch squirrels antics at trying to rob bird feeders. There is one in my backyard that hangs upside down and swings on branches like a monkey. So cute.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying the outdoors and what natural beauty there is. I don't know if a lot of people look out their houses and see the view and how beautiful nature can be. Squirrels for instance can be interesting when you think about it. It just takes time to observe certain creatures to see what their habits are. Some people have made a profession out of observing all kinds of habitat. I like to watch the birds myself. I have seen some beautiful blue jays and cardinals. They seem to fly in my area quite a bit and even have a distinct song voice. I believe that I like the birds because they are so colorful and free. I feel that way a little about myself. You have really brought something in this discussion to think about and I thank you. I really don't want too many mice though. Got to say that they are not my favorites!lol When you think about it though every animal is part of something and it is up to us to grasp or enjoy what they can bestow upon us where nature is concerned. Take care makingpots.

I thank you for award of best response. I truly do mean what I say when it comes to appreciating and enjoying what nature has given us through our lives. I do try to take some time each day to look around me at what life has to offer. It isn't always having to do with money. We can take a walk or nature hike. We can take photographs of flowers, trees and birds. There is so much out there to observe. Some people take it for granted and just pass by everything as if it is always going to be there. The world is in somewhat of a crisis. That is why there is the need to become more environmentally aware by becoming "green". I really enjoyed your post. You have started a discussion that gave me a lot of food for thought. I am appreciative of a lot of things.

I like dogs very much. They are really smartest of all animals and even obedient. As far as squirrel fight is concerned I used to watch it only at my native place. Here in my city is hard to find any squirrel. It is really sweet experience to watch, it is nice to see when they stand on there two feet and start fight as if doing boxing. lol

squirrels are so cute, once when my son was little the squirrel ran up his body and just rested on his shoulder, it was looking for nuts. They squirrels were almost tamed, we were at the cometary and told that people find them all the time that is why they are so friendly.

Awwwww, I would love that if a squirrel wanted to rest on my shoulder. I remember the squirrels on my college campus were very friendly like that. I always expected one to just come climb in my lap one day but it never happened.

I love watching squirrels play and taking pictures of them doing it. I've gotten some really cute pictures where the squirrel actually seems to be posing. It's sooo cute. I drive my 7yo daughter nuts with the pictures of squirrels that I take because she's always with me when I say I want a picture LOL My favorite animal is a dolphin though. They're so majestic, beautiful and free. I guess those are qualities that I truly admire even though I never thought about it like that until now :D
