The world is a mess... Why do we still strive to be good?

I just want to ponder on that for once. Sometimes, I feel that there are so many of us who strive to be good everyday and there are people who actually enjoy ruining the "good things" we do. Isn't it a little unfair that evil people still prowl the lands and good people rarely get rewarded for their efforts?
I don't want this to become a topic about religion, I just want to know your opinions on the futility of "being good"...

I still do good because i would rather be part of a solution then part of the problem. I might not get rewarded for my efforts but i dont want one. As long as i know i did the right thing thats all that matters.

The most reward i want is someone to say thanks that was good of you. Thats all the acknowledgment i need. If you go through doing good things wondering what you get in return, i dont think thats right. If i believed that if i do good things good things would happen to me, i would of given up being a good person along time ago. My life sucks...but i will always try to help others who need it, and do something good for someone else.

Selfless people who do good DESERVES to be rewarded. I think that's why I don't get rewarded for doing good... I think too much about my compensation for my efforts. I guess I'm really a selfish do-gooder

Not a religious answer.... I don't believe good people rarely get rewarded! We, good, loving, caring humans must have hope. Be hopeful = Look toward the good, stay positive, be thankful. Fair defines unfair, good - evil, happy - sad.... We have a choice in our behavior, reactions, and actions. I have hope, hope for better things to come, hope that evil will not be permitted to prevail, hope that the good will rub of on the bad. I think we must have hope, live for good, by good, do good in order to be an inspiration. Strive for a better whatever. People will notice, be inspired, and turn toward the good, hopeful, and positive ways.

I wish I can hope and have those hopes turn into reality. I never wanted everything (or anything for that matter) for myself, since the time I can think rationally I only wanted everyone to be at peace. It's this kind of thinking that made me wonder how come the people who strive to make the world a better place are the ones who get persecuted.
I think I need to hope more then...

Hi inky! I don't think this topic has anything to do with
religion at all! I think it has to do with the fact that in
this world there are good people and bad people! Plain and
simple! There aere people that want to help others and do
good things and be good people and then there are bad people
who only want to take things away from others and be evil
and do bad things! Unfortunately, that is the way the world
is! And the bad people usually end up winning because they
are the stronger and meaner people and don't care who they
step on or hurt in the process of getting what they want!

Well, I know some people who would readily turn topics like this into heated religion debates. I just wanted to steer clear of that route that's why I made that statement.
Going to your answer, yeah, I think there are people who are just born to do good and born to do evil, regardless of their set of beliefs, their gender, age, race or whatever. But I do feel sad that no matter how much I do good, there will still be evil people who get in the way. ALWAYS!

WHY?
BECAUSE:
That what makes this life a balanced life.
That neutralizes the ones "being bad".
That makes this earth, earth! if everybody is bad this world we are living would not be called earth but instead "HELL". and if every one is good it would be "HEAVEN". We are in EARTH so bad and good must exist together..
That is Life.

Because if none of us are good, the world will go corrupt.
It is the good people that keep this world in tact.
It is the peaceful people that are keeping this world alive.
If it werent for the good people, then there would be bad all over.

Well you know what someday we'll not be here.So in the meantime lets do as much fun as we can(either making or breaking)!!!!Even the evil-doer feels good having done something wrong.
