No new taxes!

I feel as if a weight has been lifted off of me today! I just called my Senator's office and asked that he vote no on the budget today. I heard this morning on the radio that if this budget passed it would add approximately $2400 per year to the average household! That is a giant tax hike! Anyway, the receptionist was very nice, took my name and my town and stated that she would add me to the list of residents who called to ask the same of the Senator. This was the first time I actually made a phone call - I usually just send an email to their offices. I now have gotten over my fear that I would not get a nice reception when expressing my viewpoint and will be calling more often!

Interesting. I've always heard about calling "the senator" (or his receptionist), but I never thought you would actually get through and be able to talk to someone. Weird. That's nice about the tax break - hopefully it applies to my area too! (Although I should call! lol)

Hi maezee - I think I misworded my discussion...there will not be a tax break - there will be an increase in taxes!

maezee, it would be a nice tax break. Unfortunately, to the contrary, we will end up paying over $2k more in taxes per household. That is a giant tax hike.

I would love to see where they got that $2,400 number from. Usually when I listen to the radio I get information that is WRONG, and then they are called out on it, they just say YOU are wrong. One of things that you have to understand is many of these numbers they use are much higher than the "average" American. See you have a different idea of what "average" is, if you live in New York city average is much larger than in small town Iowa. But, they consider that "average" New Yorker as "average", so don't be surprised when your taxes don't go up that high.

Hi debater...I looked this morning and the vote hadn't taken place due to an illness on the floor of the Senate I believe. So I'll check the local news this evening to see if the vote took place. I understand what you're saying but I still believe that all the taxes that they are adding: cell phone, utilities, etc. will add up to an amazing number. It may not be $2400 for me but it will be a hike nonetheless. Thanks for the response.

Yikes! I knew that there would be a tax hike somewhere down the road. That's a killer. Unfortunately, I have the bad feeling the democrats will push it through regardless of the consequences. And I surely hope people will remember and vote them out the next time they get the chance!

Hi jonesy... You said it! I certainly hope you are terribly wrong and the bad feeling will dissipate as will the tax hike! Thanks for the response.
