Pregnant students

United States

I was talking to my mom last night and she told me about a women she knew who was kicked out of a Catholic high school for being pregnant. In the United States, you can't be kicked out of public school for being pregnant, but my mom thinks you should if you are a pregnant teenager. What's your opinion? Should pregnant teens be kicked of out private schools? Should be allowed or kicked out public schools?

Your mother and I are pretty much of the same mind. Private schools are run by religions and they have rules and regulations based on the tenets of those belief systems. If a student becomes pregnant, it's more than obvious to all that she broke that religion's teaching about chastity (in all religions, btw), and the school is within its rights to expel the student. A public school is financed by taxpayer money, so it doesn't have the same option. As a taxpayer and mother myself, however, I think that pregnant students should at the very least be segregated from the mainstream classes. By treating the student as though nothing were morally wrong with that picture, it sends the wrong signal to other teens. This is actually part of the problem with the sudden rise we've been seeing in teenage pregnancies. There are no longer consequences for promiscuous behaviour resulting in fatherless babies. It's almost become a fad.

What about the father of the child it takes two doesnt it.I thought religious people were supposed to forgive all the sins of the world, not judge this poor girl for making a mistake.I realise this is a problem single mums.Surely this girl should be told the error of her ways and helped not put away out of sight, the problem will not go away if you hide it.Pretend it has not happened.I thought those days were over and done with, they used to lock girls up for getting pregnant out of wed lock everybody was just to embarrassed to admit something has gone badly wrong, ask your self why do these girls feel the need to get pregnant,it is a shameful thing we adults do not address this situation and do something about it,or should we open up the mental hospitals again,I also pay tax and I am a mother.I do respect your views.xx

Sounds very unfair to me did the father of the child get kicked out,it always amazes me that a young girl who needs all the help she can get is treated so badly.Poor girl needs her education more than ever now, not very christian to me.x
