hi friends.vettori won the toss and said he wanna field .dhoni after losing the toss said he would have opted to bat first if he had won the toss.why the contrary? both team have good seam attack and one lone experienced spinner[.b] the batsmen of both teams are in form then why the two captains have opposite views on their decision after winning the toss? personally,i dont get it.

Yes you might never understand what dhonis strategy is you were the one who said dhoni wont play in this test match but he played and played a good innings. The reason he would have said it because he trusts his batsmen to score big runs so that the bowlers can apply pressure on the opposition. Also there wil wear and tear of the pitch as the match goes on so he would like to set a target for nz and bowl on the fourth and fifth day considering he has got harbhajan in the side and pitch is supposed to help the spinners later on in the match. The other he could just be saying it because he lost the toss and he is quite smart.

yeah i agree on that being smart part.some captains do say those things to undermine the confidence of the captain who won the toss and doubt his decision. i am still sticking to my point.Dhoni should have never played in this game.he said there is still some kinda problem with his back but no one can find out the source of the pain and back problems are always dangerous and he had to keep wickets for 2 days. if something went wrong because of this risk,we may have to rest dhoni for 2 months and IPL is also coming. so i am still saying, its a stupid move by the team management. but hope nothing goes wrong with him

I see perfect logic in the response of Pratik.

hey stardust playing for the country is more important then playing in the ipl. many players play with some kind of a niggle here and there that does not mean you should skip the match entirely. i think dhoni has done the right thing even if he is not fully recoverd. he played a good knock in the context of the game and could help india win the test series after more than 40 years. that i certainly think is bigger than playing in the ipl.

I think you have got your answer on day two of f the test match. One thing I like to add is approach of virender sehwag as a captain in the second test is so far behind from the dhoni in the third match. From here on they should bat for whole third day and give new zeland 600+ target to win in two days.
