Armpit hair seems completely useless. What purpose does it serve?

I hate armpit hair I don't understand the French women who grow their armpit hair long it is so boyish and unfeminine. Some people lick their own armpit hair I say wax it off. I think it is gross to lick your own armpit hair why have it there in the first place anyway? Did you know that left armpit hair has more growth than right armpit hair? Also if you shave your armpit hair it will grow back thicker so it is best to wax it or use a lazor. Apparently armpit hair helps to retain certain glandular secretions and is a powerful aphrodisiac. Strange but, true!

There are alot of things people lick that not only don't make sense but are totally gross. Hair stuck between the teeth is completely unacceptable.

Well then, it does it's job because it annoys me! And if you have naturally dark hair, you look like you need to shave it when you don't. I would like to just have mine lasered off. I can not stand it!!!!

you might find this useful: Underarm hair is the composition of hair in the underarm area. This hair, as most of the other body hair, normally starts to appear between mid and late puberty, and sometimes even earlier. The physiological purpose of this hair is yet to be explained, but it has been suggested that it serves to collect pheromones and to lessen the effects of friction on the skin during locomotion. source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underarm_hair thanks for posting this discussion...

Wow, so scientists haven't even come up with a tried and true reason for it?...I never would've known that...hey, maybe we ought to send this discussion to them for their research...thanx for posting that...

I think it's a left over from the caveman age to keep us warm. Of course it could have a lot of other uses. For example, it could ward of unwanted admirers. But that would mean not shaving it for awhile, ewwwwww. Men seem to love showing theirs off, so maybe it's a sign of masculinity? Maybe it's just a cruel joke from mother nature, to grow hair on a body part that is really hard to see and so therefore dangerous to shave. Of course you could let it grow out of control. Then you could dye it and braid it. Start a new fashion trend that way. I wonder how many barbers would consider braiding armpit hair?

Arm pits were designed by god as an antidote for folks when they gets trapped in a room full of people who eat to many bean burrito's. The pit furnishes the deoderizer and the hair the air filter.

I am sorry but I beg to disagree. That is part of our human body, and if it is, there must be some use for it. God doesn't just puts anything useless on our body, though I believe it's just a matter of personal preference.

Wikipedia says armpit hairs lessens friction when you move and collect pheromones. Maybe that's why.

I have no need to shave it off. Do men shave it off, most that I know don't. Why should I? My husband doesn't mind.

As my daughters used to do, bleach it, dye it different loud colors and then raise their arms in highschool so the teachers would call their name. It was always a different color and the teachers loved it! Just another Freak Flag! Actually, it holds moisture from our perspiration and helps us to stay cool in the heat. But, the draw back, it holds bacteria which is what causes body odor. It really is the European look and some men like it. I find that men who have good hygiene actually have a nice musky scent and that can be a turn. How do you feel about women with armpit hair?

I personally don't care much for it, but then again I'm not really into the whole Euro thing...maybe I fell off the trend train in the early 90's...I still wear black t-shirts and jeans and listen to bands like Metallica, Warrant, Slaughter, and Poison...lol..only my musical tastes have grown to include blues, country, funk and reggea
