Do you reply to comments on your discussions?

If you do, why? Is it to be nice? Is it to keep the discussion going? Do you get more cash this way or are you just friendly? Does being friendly get you more money? I am just confused. Likewise, do people then come back to the comments they made to see if the discussion originator responded? I never know if I should respond to comments on my blog or here b/c I have a hard time keeping track of things I've commented on and I rarely go back to check, so it seems like a waste of time. Someone, please enlighten me!

Yes, I am finding now that I have more experience that it is annoying when I go back to check and people haven't bothered to respond. Good pts. Thank you!

I do for the following reasons: 1)It keeps the discussion near the top of the recent discussions made page 2)Why call it a discussion if we are discussing 3)The more replies you get to your discussion the more money you make

All good reasons! That makes a lot of sense. It definitely is more fun and challenging and REAL with all the back and forth. I concur!

I try and respond to all my discussions. However, many times people post just a word or two (perhaps with the sole intention of earning money), and that gets kind of annoying. Since I start discussions on subjects I am interested in, it is in my own interest that I respond to the responses I get. right?

Very true. And there are many more like the example you cited. When I was new here, I would reply in right earnest, but soon realised that people here are not here for discussing but to earn...nothing less nothing more. I have veered away from the inane so-called discussions since then. I believe a discussion is an exchange of ideas and views. And that is only possible through a two-way interaction. If one doesn't reply to any sensible response one gets, then you are shutting the doors on any possibility of a discussion starting...right there. Wish there were more here posting things that would rake up issues, provoke thought, or just facilitate a cross-pollination of view, and insights.

What you are saying definitely makes sense. I vascillate on the word or two issue. I think sometimes it is ok, but it does not tend to be what I do. I like the discussion aspect. Also, it seems some people begin discussions with the thought that they will get a lot of responses if they make it easy to answer. One I saw (and responded to!) was "What time is it?" Is there a lot to say about that? LOL. Not to slam anyone--just thought it was funny.

Yes I do respond to every response on my discussions, simply because: 1)It keeps the discussion near the top of the recent discussions page 2)That's why they call it a discussion 3)Yes, the longer your discussion goes on, the more money you make. Another tip...quality is better than quantity. the first 2 days I was on mylot I made 50 posts/day and only made about .90/day. Last night I made 15 posts but they were all detailed, descriptive and on-topic. They furthered the discussion and I even got best respose on 2 of them, I earned over 1.30 for those 15.

Nice. I love how the internet is making it possible for "the little guy" to do things easier and make money and suddenly find fame for talents on things like youtube. Thanks!

Yes, I try to unless it just gets so long that it is very difficult to (I've only had one like that so far). I don't know if you make money for it or not. I do it as a politeness and with the hope that maybe I will make a little something too LOL.

This is my first long one and it just keeps going. LOL. I spent most of yesterday replying to this a couple other threads I have going. I think it does really help them take off and it has been a lot more fun, too. I made waaaaaay more yesterday than the first two days I was on. Of course, I was on and off ALL day like a total addicted freak. So, I probably made like .01/hour. I seem to be developing a style where I try to respond to the ones that have added to the conversation or strike me in some way. But I am not so much responding to the one word answers, etc.

I did in the beginning, but I rarely do now. I don't think that responding to people's comments adds anything to my points or cash, so I've stopped doing it. I do go to all of the discussions that I've started and choose a 'best response" though since that is helpful to the person who left the best comment. That seems like the decent thing to do since people were nice enough to stop by and leave a comment.

Hmmm...people have said it does help. I am curious about the "best response" business. What is that used for?

I reply because yes it is nice and to help keep the discussion going as that is the point of a forum, I only respond to interesting topics and like to see it go on.

Well, I guess if I really have something to say I would be more likely to comment back. I have been trying to do so today and even then have skipped some that really didn't put too much into their responses. Sometimes there is nothing left to say, however, and I imagine then I should just shut up. LOL.

Yes I do respond back to discussions that I have started.Building a communication bridge is important with friends who are giving you answer's.We should not look for short term gain's but long time gain,s.

Building a communication bridge. That's a nice phrase. I'm curious if people find that then the commenter comes back and sees that you put a response. I have been going back to some of my responses, so I guess some people probably do.

I do if I have something to say, I dont see the point of just thanking everyone for their post, plus I think thats against the guidelines :)

I need to find these guidelines. I have not found any info from myLot at all. Perhaps I have not looked hard enough. I did just sort of jump in!

I try to reply to the ones on mine, unless they are either rude or off target. Also, if it ends up that one of my posts gets quite a few comments, I end up losing track and don't get all the comments answered.
• United States
12 Nov 06
I can see how that would happen. This is my most responded to topic in two days! lol. I don't know if I would reply to rude, but off target I do sometimes want to give the smackdown. Also, I could see how after the first 10 responses or so, you would probably have said most of what you have to say or just be repeating yourself. Thanks, PromptWriter. Are you a freelance writer? Now I have to go check you out! Wow, this is a fun site. Only problem is, my dh and kids are going to have to get the cane to drag me away from the computer. But WAIT...I've earned a whole .74 doing this! LOL.

Thank you. I guess I wasn't really sure if people went back then to see if their comment was replied to. I sometimes get a little bit flumoxed by all the technology and keeping track of where I've been. Do we get notifications if our comments are replied to? Cuz that would make it easier. Or do you just track them yourself in your account? Thanks for helping me learn what this place is all about!

Yes I reply to responses at my discussions.. I think when you are posting a discussion you need to take part of it,.. It doesnt earn us more money ...

12 Nov 06
That certainly makes sense. I'm just starting to figure this all out. Isn't it funny all the new things out there? I think from what I have heard that it doesn't DIRECTLY make you money, but rather indirectly by keeping your conversation going and up towards the top of the lists. But you are right--it is just the right thing to do. However, I was also wondering if people then go back and see if the starter ever responded to them. I haven't really done that, but it seems a lot to manage, no? I like your user name...Now I have to go check you out!

I've been trying to reply to comments on my discussions if I feel like there is some thing more to say about it, or if I have a comment on what the pther person wrote. But I don't always respond to for example comments like "I'm not interested in that" and "I don't know" - I don't see that that will make any difference to the discussion. As to weather you earn on posting in your own topic, I don't know?

Wow, that's cool on the buck! I try to think of myLot as something that is fun to do and do it as long as I'm having fun. And then, when a little bit of money comes out of it--Yay! Because I would have chatted online probably anyway. But it's not like I am going to really be making a living off of myLot. Just a little extra here and there for my big mouth is nice. :) I like your pic!
