I've had enough of Ciao.com! They've just put a blanket over several countries!

Now everyone outside of U.S., Canada and U.K. are banned from entering the website. I've came to understand that this is their way of pushing out the plagiarisers and cheaters from the website... but seriously? Banning even the honest members who write exceptional reviews? It's despicable and I'm urging everyone who wants to rant about it to speak up. I know I am not alone in this. (Obviously.) HELP!!!

This is the first I've heard of the new development on Ciao. I'll have to go check it out. To be honest, I have severely lessened my usage of Ciao due to spamming by members, but I don't think that it has anything to do with country of origin. That's odd that they would ban countries, especially since they have a sizable membership base from non-english native countries. I would write to them, if I were you, they shouldn't be blocking out honest members with good reviews! Good luck to you!

I know. Certainly they have consulted Public Relations before they made this "move"... They're owned by Microsoft for crying out loud! If they're doing this just so they can reduce payments, then it's certainly something to scoff about.

I understand how you feel. I wanted to sign up at Ciao but I wasn't accepted because I was from another country. I wish that they wouldn't ban anybody who is from a different country but instead ban those who plagiarize. They shouldn't affect others who are willing to do good and honest work.

They just admitted that INDEED they restricted the access of several countries to their site. I can't believe it would come to this. How despicable!

I have never been active at Ciao to begin with but I find their actions a bit unreasonable and unfair towards the members. Just because people from certain countries are spamming or cheating doesn't mean that they should ban everyone from there. Isn't that some kind of discrimination?

I knew it. I sensed that it will really come soon to an end. The updates, the erroneous log ins. They're just part of a much worse scenario. I think it's a bad move for them since most members, as what i have observed came from the asian region. I don't think banned members would be contented on being Ciao's spectators.

Yes, i got the same feeling like you. I used the most of my surfing time just to write and read the review on it. But if the national IP was block with no reason, that make Microsoft who had Ciao, not a big firm anymore for me. Ciao like a child who cry when his / her candy was fallen. If they want to make Ciao clean from the spammer or copy cat, they should be make a new rule and sosialize it with their members. And if they found us make a mistake, please send us a notification, so we had an information about what will not do in this site. Wish this is a technical problem for Ciao, cause when I asked my friend to check my account, my account still exist and able to login to Ciao with the other nationality IP. But if this is true, that Ciao make a discrimination action, why we used Microsoft again if they use discrimination about our country in Ciao. It is a serious problem.

Yes, if they making discrimination in that site, i will using linux. I tried some distribuiton of linux, like Red Hat, Mandriva, Ubuntu, and nice to use it. For Office, and also the internet software, they had Open Office and also Mozilla Firefox like we used in Windows. That's a choice my friends. We did some action to unfair action.

As if in USA, there's no cheaters and spammers and abusers. I know CIAO has been abused by some members, but it doesn't mean they can behave like this. We deserve an explanation ( you are right ). I can imagine what factors making ciao behaving like this : - They run out of money to pay even the honest members. - They want to punish and revenge due to some abusing members from Asian and makes all Asian members feeling sorry. - They are totally LOOSER and HYPOCRITE. - They don't know that they acting as bad as the abuser they punished.

North American Companies these days...you can't help it. I'm sure there is another reason behind it, the cheaters are jsut an excuse.

I am not an active member of that site anymore. Since the changes in the policies, I was seeing that they might not be able to maintain its membership since earning was really good back then and the members becoming larger by the day. The first few changes I tied to be active but slowly I felt not interested in it. I am not really angry at them or disappointed if they would want to delete my account they can do so.

Although I'm a member, I've never been active in Ciao. Each account should be evaluated on an individual basis and if grounds are found for banning the account then so be it, however to impose a ban on an entire country seems a bit extreme. Perhaps they are having financial issues (and who isn't) and are using this as an excuse to cancel payments. Again, I'm just speculating, but it seems like unusually harsh punishment from a site I had heard many good things about.

Microsoft owns Ciao and everyone knows that it is a rich company. So I think that they should atleast pay us first before banning us outright!!

I am one of those who got banned from Ciao! I think it's totally unfair to such a thing. That puts a big question mark on their managerial skills! It's not fair for the people who have spent quite a lot of time writing honest and well-framed reviews for Ciao! For sometime we were able to login through the backdoor technique and now that too seem to have vanished! If ciao would have applied such strict rules earlier to check the cheaters then the problem wouldn't have surfaced! This is not fair on their part! As far as standing against them is concerned there no option is left! WE can't login to ciao moreover they are not replying to the e-mails... If they have banned the members from other countries than US, UK or Canada then they should ban them from accessing their site as well! I would suggest everyone to stop visiting their site... That's all that can be done... Thumbs down to Ciao!
