Some people say that college students should take part-time jobs. Others worry that part-time jobs do them nore harm than good . I know people have different views on it . I am a teacher of a college So I care about it more than others . Most of my students are taking part-time jobs because of them are earning money for their basical lives . Sometimes I want to let them focus theirs eyes on their study . but they would not have enough money to support their all kinds of fees . So what is your view on this? why or why not ?

Hi there! In my country a lot of college students have part-time jobs. Especially now that economy is low people need some extra income in order to survive and for students, these extra income would be a lot of help. In my opinion, I cannot say that having a part-time job while studying is bad nor good. To me it depends on the person experiencing it. If the part-time job will help him/her finish school then it is a necessity to the person. Sure it will be hard for them to focus much on their studies having to divide their time and energy for both work and school but if the person has the will to do both things, he/she can do it successfully. It's just a matter of hard work and will. Being able to finish a degree is important for us to find a better job someday and have a good future. If I am still a student and needs help from a part-time job, I will look for one if I have to. It wouldn't matter much if I graduate without honors for not focusing much at school, as long as I finish my degree it's ok. Ciao!

Oh yes part-time jobs have become popular I think world wide. It's good if we can earn extra income always for those extra expenses. In my country even the can afford teenagers wants a part-time job. It could be a sign that kids nowadays are more adventurous. Happy posting!

I think taking a part time job depends on how good you are in time management. It depends on many factors because being a student and a worker is not that easy. I was a fast food cashier when I was in my fourth year college way back 2005. I worked for five months while studying at the same time. My schedule is not so long because my full time load (means all subjects for the semester was taken) is just for three days. Each day I need to attend to class for 6 hours straight. Problem is we have a thesis/defense practice during those times so it eats most of my time. Plus I also need to study my other subjects. My schedule in the fast food I worked with is 6 days a week. I decided to request for a rest day where I have the hardest subjects in school. So I have totally no whole day rest. All my days were spent with a lot of things: work, school, studies etc. etc. Being a part time worker and a student is not easy. But I have learned to value time. I have learned to use all times that other students just waste with outings and other things that a youth usually does. I always make it a point that I study everyday after work and learned to limit my sleep hours from 7 hours to 4 to 5 hours everyday. Sometimes I needed to make them shorter if examination week arrives. I always study in advance and I always give a valid excuse with my manager when there is an urgent school activity. Good thing with fast food chains is that they are not that strict when it comes to students because 95% of the crews are students. I decided to work before because I wanted to support myself. My relatives are the ones who sent me to the university since first year and I started feeling shy to them. I also thought of the idea that after I graduate I need to work and support myself with all that I need. So the idea of trying to work is what I did. Luckily I manage to become a crew trainer and that means an honor on my part and I graduated with flying colors that others were not able to believe. A lot admired me and they were asking how I was able to succeed in both fields. I told them what I did and they could never believe that it was possible. I know teachers and professors are having a hard time with working students. They may tend to neglect their studies once money came their way. But to me, it is just a matter of knowing your priorities and setting self-discipline and time for everything you do. Most students need to work to support their studies but they should value their studies MORE when they are the ones who are paying for everything: daily allowance, tuition fees, books etc etc. Some may tend to neglect their studies once they get jobs and that for me is wrong. So again to professors always keep on giving advice because that will boost the morale and confidence of your students so that they would have a better life.

Thank you for talking so much , I think I can get somthing from what you said . You are so nice to share your experience and minds with us . That sounds very reasonable and correct . You are able to ducceed in both fields that is very not easy for some students . I paid more attention on the souls of students , I am afaid of a wrong advice that leads to a bad result. So I provided this question a few days ,the aim is to get good ideas . Thank you very much!

Well I personally would not allow my kids to work while they are in college or university. I just don't want them to have a hectic life trying to make with their studies and money at the same time. I think its the best time for them to concentrate on their studies. I would instead prefer that they study or do some part time course which would add to their educational qualification.

Yes ,as a teacher ,I don't hope my student abandon their educational quqlification for earning much money . If they can do this in a correct direction that is very nice ,but unless they will pay much price on their study . That is a huge problem for us . isn't it ?

I think it actually depends on the student if they could do those two at the same time. Its actually ok to let them work but i think its important that their work must not affect their studies because in any case studies would still be a students priority. It would actually depend on the student if he could handle both his studies and work at the same time. I think one good think in working at a young age is that you would tend to appreciate thinks more especially what you have. Most younger generations nowadays dont appreciate what they really have because their parents have always been giving everything they have been asking for and for them they see thing that its just easy to get what you want without even working hard for it. It actually develops a students good values in a sense if you would allow them to work at their age.

I think college students should take part-time job. Advantage: 1. Earn some money for their basic living or extra money for the things they want. They will know if they want something, they have to go get it by themselves. 2. If the part-time job you are doing is right fit for your marjor, you can start gaining work experience. You can use what you learn into practice. 3.If you distribute your time properly, you can earn the money and improve your study.

I agree with what you talked about three aspects of advantages for part-time job . But the problem is that many students focus intention on much money ,they can;t distribute their time properly, for example they are very sleepy and tired of part-time job on class . and they can't pay attention to what the teather are talking about . Futhermore they pursure the money more than the books . I wouldn't like to they do like this ,so I always worrry about it .

Actually I think that working, even part time, is good for students in high school or college. It helps them to have a better grasp of the workforce and lets them learn about responsibility and budgeting. I understand that it isn't always easy to juggle school and work but life is the same way, it isn't always easy to juggle a job and a family. They better concentrate on their study than take partime jobs while studying. Its hard to manage your study and work at a same time. I've been in that situation already and regret that i took part time job while studying coz you wont have enough time for yourself to relax. And i dont have much time to study that time. that why i didnt graduate on time and that's what i regret so much.

In fact I agree that college students take the part-time job. As one day when they graduate from school and apply for the interview, the normal question is whether they have the working experience. I think the part-time job will let them know more about it. And college students are not teenagers, they should also learn to depend on themselves. Some college students have never had the part-time job, however, I don't think they spend more time on study anyway. They prefer to use the spare time for playing. When I was a college student, I had part-time job as a tutor for a high school student:) I love China

I think it really depends on the situation of the student. Probably if the student need money to support his/her study, a part time job is a good thing. But if a student can afford to go fulltime, it's much better I think. Personally, I am thankful that I was able to finished school for full time, with the help of my parents. I see some other students finding it hard to focus in school the moment they earn money. As they say, it's hard to go back to school the moment you earn money, especially if it's a good one. It also depends on how determined the student to finish his/her studies. In this case, no matter what part time job he/she gets, it's for sure that the student could finish his/her study. It's all about priority, and whichever the student prioritize, that's the way he/she is gonna follow, whether to earn money or to finish study. =)

I think more and more students are taking part time jobs because education can be expensive especially if you want to study in a private university. It's not just the tuition fees that increase every year but the everyday expenses that the student and their parents should think about. I'm sure if the students are given the choice of whether they just want to focus on their studies, then they would gladly do so. But sadly, they are faced with a situation wherein they have to work just to be able to continue their studies.

parttime gives you money for your college expenses,hangout,etc....remember itz good if you compromise your health and sleep. money is not only the ultimate goal.

In all sense of reality, it's a mater of balence. Any human has trouble balancing on one foot for prolonged periods, that's why we need two or fake limbs or canes to lean on. This task of a part time job differs on the student, if the student can matain a 2.0 gpa & still fit in a 1/2 hour to study, he or she should take a part time job, if they can't, they either need to prioritize or quit the part time job. I'm afraid their is no universal advice for everyone, but putting priorities straight is the the best for all on this matter.

i took a part time job when i was a student. like what others had said, it has advantage because personally, i became more responsible in a sense that i experienced the hardship in earning money and i valued my studies even more. another advantage is that i get to buy whatever i want, since i got extra money from my salary. but the bad thing is... i don't have enough time to study. i was always tired and as a consequence, i don't study anymore, i just make it a point that i will pass every exam and subject. but from that, i learned time management.

It depends on their financial status. Of course, it is good when you're getting hands-on experience and earning money at the same time, but if you don't really need the money, but the job is taking away time for you to study (thus lowering your marks in college), I don't think it's such a good idea.

I personally feel that it depends on the person. Some students can cope up with studies even if they are working while some may be left out in their studies when they are tired of working. Working part time is definately a good experience one should gain.
