Is a working holiday a good idea?

I know that many people dream of traveling but don't have enough money. When I was 18 years old I worked as a children's nanny in Finland. The high wages gave me enough money to travel around Europe by train. To help fund my trip around the world when I was 20 I got a working holiday visa for Australia. I did all sorts of work and had an enjoyable time. I worked as a children's nanny, packed paper into handbags and collected money for charity. If you were given a working holiday visa for one year which country would you choose to go to and why?

My condition is so similar with that when you were 18 years.I am short of money for travelling.however I will work hard to break the limitation of money.Anyway, if I were given a working holiday visa for one year, I will go to Spain or Egypt.

A working holiday in any western European country would be a great idea. The jobs are fairly easy to find and the pay is good, as you told about your trip to Finland. I would think working holidays to South America or Asia would be much more difficult. Specifically, what jobs could you do and what kind of pay would you receive? Has anyone ever done a working holiday in one of these environments?

I must say working in London for six weeks certainly helped me have a better trip home than I would have had without the extra savings. I'm past working visa's now, as at 68, I'm about ready to enjoy retirement,

Good discussion, maximax8. I like the idea but would have been more likely to do it at the ages you did it. Wouldn't fit in my life very well right now. I think I would choose a country that I could travel Europe by train as you did. Although, Australia would be high on my list as well. I like reading your discussions because your love of travel and the way you have made it a priority in your life shows through.

Hi maximax, this is indeed an interesting discussion. Well a working holiday can be viewed positively or negatively perhaps depending on a person's priority. If a person is career oriented, then a working holiday would please him, but for those family oriented individuals who relies their bonding sessions on those few days that are marked red in their calendars would take this otherwise. Well, whether it's a working day or not, one can still enjoy the holiday, besides it's only a matter of perpective. Pidä hauskaa maximax!ü

I have worked abroad a couple of times when I was younger and to me that was the ideal solution, because I wanted to travel around in Europe, but I didn't have a lot of money. I think that there are many advantages about a working holiday. It is a way to get some money to spend on traveling and at the same time it is a way to learn something about a different culture and get to know the country "from the inside". I would be very happy if I got a visa for a working holiday, but it would be really hard for me to decide where to go, because there are so many countries that I am interested in. I was pretty sure that I would choose a country in Asia though. Maybe India, because I have always been especially interested in that country.

I would like to go to London if given the chance. problem is, In my country, it's difficult to get a working visa. I look forward to that place because ever since I was a child, I was taught the London Bridge song. It's a very popular song among children in my country. We sing and play it in my childhood days. I want to see myself what London Bridge really looks like.

For me there's nothing wrong working on a holiday you really need to do so. Its also a way if you wanna earn extra cash/ money or wherein you have nothing to do or rather spending time doing nothing instead of working to earn. Just don't overdo yourself because we also need to rest and to abusing our body.
